If you own a Ram 1500, have you looked at its rear end lately? The tailgate may have fallen. This may seem silly, but it’s actually a significant problem. Over 1.24 million 2019 – 2022 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 models have insecure tailgates.

According to Jalopnik, Ram 1500 owners need to take a look at their tailgates. There is an official recall after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) receive complaints about loose tailgates.

Over 1.24 million 2019 – 2022 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks worldwide could have faulty tailgate latches. As a result, it may randomly pop open while you’re driving. This could cause all of your items to spill into the roadway, increasing the risk of potential wrecks and injuries.

But Stellantis is currently unaware of any injuries related to this problem. However, Stellantis did receive over 800 warranty claims.

The issue boils down to striker plates on the trucks being misaligned. So the tailgates might not properly latch in the upright position!

What to do if your Ram truck is at risk

If your Ram 1500, 2500, or 3500 model is at risk, then you may be notified about this problem via mail. Sellantis could begin alerting owners in January when realignment inspections and services become available.

You will need to take your truck to the dealership to be inspected. If the plates have alignment issues, then a technician will adjust the plates to fit correctly. Equipment will be replaced at no cost to owners as necessary.

But Stellantis first began investigating this problem back in July. So, it’s not exactly new. Some owners might have already paid to fix their trucks. It’s currently unclear if they will be reimbursed for equipment and maintenance costs.

You don’t have to return to the same dealership where you purchased your truck. A local Stellantis dealership will be fine. Just be sure to call ahead or go online to schedule an appointment in advance. This could help reduce waiting time.

Also, this problem isn’t related to the multi-function tailgate or tailgates with built-in sensors. So, count yourself lucky if your ride is equipped with either of those options.

Over 120.00 vehicles are at risk in Canada, while 26,000 trucks are impacted in Mexico. Other countries account for 27,000 models. So, this is primarily an issue in America.

Does the Ram 1500 have a lot of recalls?

The Ram 1500 is doing alright when it comes to recalls. It has had four recalls so far this year. But the 2022 ford f-150 has racked up nine recalls. Also, the tailgate latch isn’t exactly the most dangerous issue.

In the middle of November, nearly half a million Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks were recalled due to a fire risk related to the turbo diesel engine. Also, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe currently has a stop-sale due to the sudden loss of engine power.

Stellantis is in fourth place for the most recalls. It has experienced eight issues across three million vehicles. But that covers Dodge, Ram, Fiat, Jeep, Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Maserati, etc. Ford leads the pack with over 8.6 million vehicle recalls.
