Subaru has advised owners of some 2019 to 2022 Ascent models to park them outside, away from garages and other structures. It’s also recommended not to leave them unattended while the engine is running. If there is any sign of smoke or odors coming from the dashboard while driving, drivers need to pull over immediately, turn off their vehicle, and call Subaru roadside assistance.

According to CBS News, “The company says an electrical grounding bolt connected to the cabin heating system may have been improperly fastened. This problem can result in the grounding terminal and surrounding parts melting and increase the risk of fire when the vehicle’s PTC heater is on. The PTC heater is part of a back-up heating system that operates until the engine is warmed up enough to heat the passenger cabin.”

The good news? Only a small percentage of 2019 to 2022 Subaru Ascent SUVs are expected to have this problem. And there haven’t been any reported crashes or injuries caused by this issue.
