While the Volvo XC60 is a safe and well-appointed luxury SUV, not everything on it is as tight as it should be. The Swedish automaker just announced a recall for over 87,000 XC60 models built from 2018 to 2020 due to the possibility of an incorrect torque specification used on the windshield wiper bolts during assembly. This issue could potentially lead to reduced vision during inclement weather so it’s imperative that XC60 owners get it checked out.

Which Volvo XC60 models are being recalled?

According to Consumer Reports, the vehicles being recalled include the Volvo XC60 models built between May 20, 2017, and May 25, 2020. The recall involves approximately 87,226 vehicles.

The fix is as simple as can be

Fortunately for XC60 owners, the fix is as simple as can be. A certified Volvo technician will simply tighten the bolts on the windshield wiper arms in order to ensure that they are tightened to the necessary and proper torque specification. We would hope that the process wouldn’t take more than five minutes and that XC60 owners won’t be upsold on other maintenance items during the process, however, your experience may vary.

Volvo XC60 owners should receive a notice soon

Volvo XC60 owners should receive a notice about the recall in October. As far as any symptoms of the issue, XC60 owners might hear an unusual noise if the wiper arms happen to loosen up while driving.

This isn’t the first recall for the Volvo XC60 this year

According to The Car Connection, this isn’t the first time that the Volvo XC60 has been recalled this year. In March, the XC60 was recalled for its automatic emergency braking system potentially not engaging. Other recalls included unstable front seats, liftgate arms that could freeze, and separate from the vehicle, as well as a faulty GPS locator.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that the Volvo XC60 is not a safe car by any means. The 2020 models currently have a 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and were voted as a “Top Safety Pick” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

And while these recalls might sound somewhat minor compared to those found on other vehicles from other manufacturers, we strongly advise any Volvo XC60 owners to always ensure that they get the recall work done in a timely manner.
