Recall Blitz: Ford Mustang Mach-E and Ford Expedition Units Face Trouble
Every time we turn around, there is another Ford recall. SUVs are rolling away, airbags aren’t working, and things are catching on fire. If you have a Ford Mustang Mach-E, Ford Expedition, or a heavy-duty truck, see if your ride is facing a dangerous issue.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E, Ford Expedition, and heavy-duty trucks face recalls
We are looking at three different recalls for Ford vehicles. About 350,000 models need to visit the dealership for repairs. The most significant issue involves 39,000 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models that may catch fire.
If you own a 2021 Ford Expedition or Lincoln Navigator, park it outdoors and away from other vehicles and structures. According to CNBC, Ford doesn’t know the cause of these fires, and that’s pretty concerning.
The fires can ignite while the engines are off. Ford is aware of 16 fires under the hood and 14 in rental vehicles. One person was burned, but there are no reports of the fires spreading to buildings.
The fires seem to be starting in the back of the engine compartment near the passenger side, and Ford doesn’t have a plan to fix this issue yet. You don’t have to stop driving your vehicle. Just be careful about where you park.
What are the Mach-E and heavy-duty truck recalls?
The Ford Expedition has the most concerning issue, but the Ford Mustang Mach-E and heavy-duty trucks need maintenance too.
About 464 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E models struggle with a software issue that may cause unintended acceleration, deceleration, or a loss of power in all-wheel drive vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) posed that the powertrain control computer might not detect the software error. Dealers will correct the problem with a software update.
Over 310,000 heavy-duty trucks are under recall because the driver’s airbag might not inflate during a crash. The recall covers 2016 F-250, 350, 450, and 550 models.
Dust can get into the airbag wiring in the steering wheel, causing the electricity to disconnect. Dealers will replace the steering wheel wiring for free.
What to do if your ford vehicle is at risk
If your Ford Expedition is at risk, you could be notified about the problem soon. Ford is working on compiling a list of vehicle owners and addresses. Owners will be notified via mail and apps as quickly as possible.
Ford is working to determine the root cause of the fires. They seem to be limited to SUVs manufactured between December 1, 200 to April 30, 2021.
Owners of Ford Mustang Mach-E models will be notified via mail beginning on May 30. Owners of heavy-duty trucks at risk will be notified via mail starting by July 5.
You can visit the NHTSA site here and enter your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see if your ride is under recall. However, the list of Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models is still being compiled.
