You might not be able to refer to one truck as ‘old reliable’ anymore. While the Toyota Tundra has a reputation for reliability, the current generation has launched with a few crucial issues. Now over 100,000 2022 – 2023 Toyota Tundra models face a recall due to engine failure

Roughly 100,000 Toyota Tundra models face engine failure

You may need to visit your local dealership for service because 102,000 Toyota Tundra models are being recalled due to engine failure, which sounds like a catastrophic problem.

The trucks included were manufactured in 2022 and 2023. Also, the engine that’s struggling is the traditional gas-powered one, not the more powerful Hybrid unit.

The engine problem is related to spun engine bearings that could lead to total engine failure. It’s possible that debris may not have been cleared from the engine during production.

This could lead to engine knocking, running rough, the failure to start, and a sudden loss of power. The loss of power increases the risk of accidents and injuries, especially at higher speeds.

Toyota doesn’t have a remedy for this problem yet but will update owners once it puts a plan together. The solution could require replacing the engine, so that will be a large bill for Toyota to tackle.

One owner who has already faced this problem reported that the engine replacement cost about $30,000 and labor added another $6,500 to the total bill. Hopefully, people who have already had their engines replaced will be reimbursed.

An official recall notice hasn’t been released yet, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) is preparing to take action.

Toyota is providing information before the NHSTA forces it to. Owners of affected trucks will be notified by late July 2024. You can see the official Toyota press release here

You can visit any Toyota dealership for service, but I recommend scheduling an appointment first to save time.

You can contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 with any questions that you may have. Plus, you can visit Toyota.com/recall or nhsta.gov to see if your truck is involved.

It’s unclear how long it will take to fix impacted Toyota Tundra models, but perhaps you can receive a loaner vehicle during the repair process.
