Recall Alert for Jeep Wrangler, Gladiator, and Ram 1500s With Seat Belt Issues
Uh oh, there is a major Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) recall for the Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Gladiator, Ram 1500, and Ram 2500 due to having faulty seatbelts. See if your Jeep or Ram vehicle is at risk.
Jeep Wrangler, Gladiator, Ram 1500, and 2500 recall
About 2,100 2019 – 2020 model year Jeep Wrangler SUVs, Jeep Gladiator pickup trucks, Ram 1500, and 2500 pickup trucks have been recalled due to seatbelt issues. The front seat belt retractors may fail to properly lock during a collision, increasing the risk of injury.
According to Cars.com, FCA, the manufacturer of Ram and Jeep vehicles, will begin notifying owners if they are at risk by November 13. But you can call the automaker at 800-853-1403 to see if your vehicle is affected instead of waiting to be notified.
You can also call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit their website at SafeCar.gov to enter your 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) online. Your VIN can be found on the side of your font passenger door when it’s open.
What happens if my Jeep Wrangle, Gladiator, or Ram truck is at risk?
If your Jeep or Ram is affected by this recall, then dealers will replace the front seat belt retractors for free. However, be sure to schedule a maintenance appointment first, so you don’t get stuck waiting around all day. This particular recall isn’t the only one that Jeep Wranglers, Gladiators, and Ram trucks have faced recently. On March 11, 2020, Jeep Wranglers and Jeep Gladiators were recalled for a fire risk.
2018 – 2020 Jeep Wrangler models and 2020 Jeep Gladiator trucks with manual transmissions could overheat and increase fire risk. This is because the clutch pressure plate, which transfers engine torque to the transmission, may overheat due to friction and cause the transmission case to crack. If it cracks, heated debris could contact ignition sources and go up in flames.
On August 28, 2020, FCA issued a recall for 2019 and 2020 Ram 1500 models for not having enough clearance with the all-weather floor mats. This recall was for 160,229 2019 – 2020 Ram 1500 pickup trucks.
The all-season floor mats could interfere with the accelerator pedal because the adjustable pedals could be positioned in a way that doesn’t leave enough room for them. As a result, the mats may interfere with accelerating and braking, leading to an increased risk for crashing.
On February 4, 2020, there was another Jeep Wrangler recall for 3,000 2020 model year SUVs. The left-side lower arm control bracket and weld may be incorrectly positioned. As a result, the lower arm control could separate from the axle, increasing the risk of injury.
