Recall: Ford Issues Giant Recalls for Mustang, Expedition, and More
Not one, not two, but three separate safety recalls were announced by Ford today. They are for vehicles ranging from the Mustang to the Lincoln Navigator. With a Transit Connect rolled in there between the two. 2020 Expedition and 2020 Lincoln Navigator SUVs are in the first recall. At issue is the Pre-Collision Assist system that includes forward-collision warning, dynamic brake support, and the automatic emergency brake system. The recall is because this system is not coming on when the vehicle is started.
There is no warning of an imminent collision
Because of this, there is no warning of an imminent collision. The vehicle would normally slow down in these situations with these drivers assist features. Without the system being on the vehicle doesn’t react to the conditions. This is not an autonomous system but it can assist the driver in avoiding an accident before the driver has time to react.
All of the affected Navigators and Expeditions were built at the Kentucky Truck Plant. The affected Expedition models were built there between April 16, 2019, and March 20, 2020. The affected Navigator SUVs were built there between July 15, 2019, and March 19, 2020.

The fix is for dealer technicians to reprogram the body control module, the ABS, instrument cluster, and headlamp control module. Besides all of that the tire pressure monitoring system will need to be reset too. Ford says it is not aware of accidents related to this recall.
The next recall involves both the Mustang and the Navigator SUV. In both, there is a “transmission not in park” warning message that also includes a warning chime. It does not remain on for the required times it is programmed for. The chime should run for 10 seconds and the instrument panel warning should stay lit for 30 minutes.
These are the affected Mustangs and Navigators involved
In the affected vehicles the chime and warning stay on for only three seconds. The affected 2019 and 2020 Mustangs were made between April 26 and October 10, 2019. Navigators manufactured between October 16, 2018, and October 13, 2019, can also be affected.
To fix the problem the instrument cluster will be reprogrammed at the local dealer level. Ford said this also has not caused any accidents or injuries as far as it knows. A little over 10,000 vehicles are involved in this issue.
The third recall involves sunroofs flying off of Transit Connects
For the third recall, the sunroof in Transit Connects can become disconnected and fly off of the van at speed. This is due to an improper bond between the sunroof and body. Usually leaking and wind noise is the first indication that the sunroof is becoming disconnected from the top. The problem has specifically caused interior damage to the affected vehicles.
This recall affects Ford Transit Connect vans built at Valencia, Spain, manufacturing plant between July 17, 2014, and October 1, 2016. A little more than 5,000 Transit Connect vans are affected.
The fix requires Ford technicians to first remove, then clean, and finally reinstall the sunroof with the proper bonding agent.
