The 2020 Toyota Camry has great ratings all around, according to Consumer Reports, with an overall score of 84. Like the model years before the new Camry is reliable, has high customer satisfaction reviews and current owners will tell you its a good buy for the money. There haven’t been too many issues with the Camry, and it takes the lead for Consumer Reports on cars that will last 200,000 miles and more, but there is one recall that could change all of that.

It’s all fine and dandy, except for one small problem…

The Toyota Camry has been reliable for owners so far, but there is one minor recall that is causing some serious problems. Toyota claims that almost 44,200 vehicles could be affected, and it’s something that is hazardous to your car and also dangerous.

A leak in the car’s coolant system can cause the car’s coolant to leak out. The leak is occurring in the engine castings in which the porous material is cracking and allowing coolant to leak from the system.

In the traditional, non-plug-in-hybrid models, this can cause the engine to overheat. In some cases, when the engine overheats it was stall completely, and that could lead to potential car accidents if the engine stalls in traffic or even worse, while driving.

The engine overheating can also cause some significant mechanical damage and increases the potential for motor oil to leak from the engine. Under certain circumstances, the motor oil has the potential to catch fire and combined with pressurized gasoline the results could be potentially harmful. This also matches with reports of burning oil.

Here’s what Toyota is doing to fix it

Toyota is making a concerted effort to contact all Camry owners that could be affected, but if you’re concerned you can contact the NHSTA. The Camry isn’t the only car that is potentially affected, like the Toyota Avalon, and other cars of this year’s line up that share the same engine and coolant system.

The manufacturer plans on resolving the problem by doing a complete inspection and potential replacement of the entire engine block on any affected cars. This replacement will be done at the manufacturer’s cost and be free to any owners affected by the recall.

Toyota has already begun notifying owners that could be potentially affected and the recall, that began in April of this year, has already been resolved for many owners.

Regardless of this recall, the 2020 Toyota Camry maintains it’s high-reliability rating and customer satisfaction scores. Toyota is making a large effort to fix the issue in a timely manner, and it has so far been the only major problem or complaint with the car.
