The hunt for a reliable SUV that reaches 200,000 miles or more is on, but the used car market will not facilitate any deals. In the research performed by iSeeCars, nine of the top 15 vehicles are SUVs. A majority of those are Toyota SUVs, trucks, and cars, with the Toyota Land Cruiser in the first place (again).

At the top of the list from iSeeCars, the Toyota Land Cruiser remains steadfast in its long life. This is the most recent study on the longest-lasting SUVs and trucks to reach 200,000 miles, but the Land Cruiser remains on top. 18.2% of Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs reach 200,000 miles with ease. That’s also why these are so hard to find in the used market – people keep the Land Cruiser for as long as possible.

“The iconic and indestructible Toyota Land Cruiser is engineered to last at least 25 years, even under the harshest of driving conditions, as it is relied upon in many developing countries where off-road driving is the norm.”

Toyota is actually the most represented brand on the list, taking six of the top 10 spots. The Toyota Sequoia with 14.2% of cars hitting 200,000 miles. Together, the Land Cruiser and Sequoia make up 32.4% of all vehicles that reach that milestone. Not a bad bragging point for the brand.

The Toyota 4Runner (4.6%) and the Toyota Highlander Hybrid (3.8%) are the other two SUVs that made the list. However, the Toyota Tundra (4.0%), Avalon (3.9%), Prius, and Sienna (3.2%) all made the top 15 vehicles. The average for all cars is only 1.2% which is relatively low compared to where the Land Cruiser fell.

Five of these reliable SUVs are American brands

iSeeCars looked at 14.9 million cars sold during 2021 to find which vehicles are the most reliable SUVs on the market. Those looking for long-term reliability and an American SUV can check out the Big Three brands.

The Chevrolet Suburban is a long-lasting SUV, making up 6.6% of the vehicles lasting more than 200,000 miles. The GMC Yukon XL came in with 5.2%, followed by the Ford Expedition (4.5%), Chevrolet Tahoe (4.4%), and GMC Yukon (3.7%). That makes up the five American full-size SUVs.

That isn’t by chance, though. “All manufactured by General Motors, the Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, and Chevrolet Tahoe share a platform and many common parts, confirming why these popular family vehicles are all likely to last 200,000 miles,” Brauer said to iSeeCars.

Toyota is the top automaker but there are plenty of options on the list

Five brands make up the longest-lasting vehicles on the road. Toyota is the top automaker with 2.3%, followed by Honda with 1.9%. GMC is in third place with 1.8%, followed by Chevrolet with 1.6&, and Ford with 1.5%. The average for all brands is 1.2%, which is still impressive.

Those looking for a reliable SUV that will reach 200,000 miles or more might want to consider the stats. If you want an SUV that will be in your family for a long time, Toyota, Honda, GMC, Chevrolet, and Ford are the winners. Those who want a Toyota Land Cruiser or Sequoia will likely have to pay a premium for that.
