If you think trucks are expensive wait until you hear about maintenance costs! People are willing to pay more for stronger windshields to stand up to rocks or bullets. But the Tesla Cybertruck doesn’t deliver on its protective promises.

The Tesla Cybertruck has an armored windshield that easily breaks

According to TorqueNews, yet another Tesla Cybertruck owner has found themselves with an expensive repair bill due to false promises.

People are drawn to the Cybertruck because it has the largest windshield in the entire automotive industry.

It provides tons of visibility and creates a sense of freedom. However, it might be a little weaker than originally promised. Instead of having armored glass, it now has shatter-resistant glass.

The windshield is rated for Class four hail, which means it’s rated to handle the impact of a baseball thrown at 70 miles per hour.

Cybertruck owner, Anthony Schmidt, was upset because a rock easily cracked his ‘armored’ windshield. The replacement wasn’t covered by Tesla’s warranty, leaving him with a $2,442.71 repair bill. It’s about double the price of an average windshield.

It’s unclear if Anthony has insurance with glass coverage, but it’s a handy thing to have should a random windshield crack occur. Newer vehicles may not have third-party glass installers either.

Plus, to make matters worse, the Tesla Cybertruck has high rates of insurance coverage. It’s about 50% more expensive to cover the Cybertruck compared to an average truck and 60% higher than the average car.

It may come out to about $3,209 per year or $267 per month. Some people were quoted at roughly $400 per month.

The basic Cybertruck warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles based on which comes first. The battery and drive unit battery covers the first eight years of ownership or 150,000 miles with a minimum 70% retention of battery capacity.

Also, the supplemental restraint system warranty covers the vehicle for five years or 60,000 miles. The rust warranty covers 12 years of ownership and unlimited miles.
