Report: Chevy Stops Delivery Of All Corvette C8s
We’ve been on this 2020 Corvette flying frunk mystery for a while. Now it seems it’s no longer a mystery to Chevy as it concludes there is a problem. A big problem. As we reported a number of YouTube dashcam videos are showing frunks randomly flying open while driving. It’s not a conspiracy it’s just happening. Chevy has finally gotten the message. It has issued a stop delivery order for all C8 2020 Corvettes in the pipeline.

The Corvette just seems to be cursed when it comes to 2020 production. While this shouldn’t hinder production it does pose problems for Chevy. As the Corvettes pile up they’ll need to store them somewhere. And, of course, once the fix is determined it will need to apply it to the stash before it can continue Corvette deliveries.
Chevy has already issued a safety recall over the Corvette’s frunk, but it is unrelated. “General Motors has decided to voluntarily recall certain 2020 model-year Chevrolet Corvette vehicles for a potential issue with the vehicle’s front trunk lid,” General Motors said in a statement. “If drivers ignore the vehicle’s visual and audible warnings that the front trunk lid is open, they can drive the vehicle in that condition at speed, which could increase the likelihood that the wind force is sufficient to inadvertently flip open the hood.”
Chevy has stated in the past that it is a driver error and has nothing to do with how the Corvette’s frunk is engineered. But Corvette forums provide a different story. Drivers say it is inadvertent and that it happens with no warning.
C8 deliveries can resume once a fix is installed
After reporting the issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Chevy is required to stop deliveries. Those deliveries can resume once a fix is installed. Chevy is currently working on a software fix it will have available online. Owners can either apply the update or take the car to a dealer who will do it.
The fix will limit the Corvette’s speed to 26 mph if the hood is not closed and latched. Additionally, a message will be displayed telling the driver the speed has been limited. The frunk release on the keyfob will be changed and the amount of time necessary to open the frunk will be increased. That will apply to both the interior switch and in-trunk release.
It remains to be seen how long it will take to get these software updates completed. Until that time no Corvettes will be sent to dealers. So, if you have one ordered and were given an arrival date that will probably be delayed. But if you have one ordered you’re probably used to delivery delays.
