Reportedly Lucid Is Ramping Production to 40-50 Cars per Day to Meet Demand
Lucid is one of the newcomers on the electric vehicle block, but it’s already impressed critics and car enthusiasts alike. However, the brand has had its fair share of struggles, including a recent bout with supply chain issues that many automakers faced. Production took a significant hit this year because of it. The brand made some creative moves to revamp parts of the company. Was it successful? Have they overcome those problems by Lucid ramping production? Let’s find out.
Lucid production struggles
Lucid initially claimed it would produce about 20,000 air-electric cars this year. But, due to some supply shortages and coordination of resources, the brand scaled back that goal. Lucid then said they would get 12,000 to 14,000 vehicles done, which was scaled back to a 6,000 to 7,000 range.
That’s quite a hit in Lucid’s production for a startup that has over 37,000 sedans on reserve from customers. Plus, they also planned to sell approximately 100,000 more EVs to Saudi Arabia’s government, which owns a 62% stake in the company, and invested a billion into the brand, according to Engadget.
How Lucid is ramping production
To catch up to the brand’s goals, Lucid planned to revise production strategies since the company was able to identify the primary causes of what slowed down vehicle manufacturing. As Engadget reports, the CEO announced restructuring the brand’s logistics efforts and added new professionals to the company’s administrative team. These changes were made to bring the brand back to its original production goals.
Apparently, these new moves made a significant difference because production bounced back. Previously, the brand built about 5 to 15 cars a day, but those figures pretty much tripled, and Lucid is now producing 40 to 50 electric vehicles a day, as reported by InsideEVs. If these numbers keep up, Lucid could build closer to the 20,000-unit mark instead of the 7,000 recently reported.
What vehicles are Lucid currently producing?
First, Lucid released its Air sedan, which is already an award winner. One of the most impressive features of this vehicle is the driving range you get on a single charge. Each trim offers different distances, but you can expect to get from 406 to 520 miles. The longest one comes from the brand’s special Air Dream Edition model.
When it comes to performance, it’s still hard to beat. For the Air Dream Range model, the sedan can go from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 2.8 seconds. Lucid’s luxury Air EV came to win its category, and it definitely did that. It also provides the largest frunk (front trunk) available in the segment. The price ranges from $87,000 to $154,000.
Then there’s Lucid’s upcoming Gravity, the brand’s first Crossover SUV. It’s set to be built on the same platform as the Air, offering plenty of cabin space and cargo room for the SUV as the sedan.
Not much information is known about it, but it’s expected that the Gravity will be able to produce at least 1,080 hp, but it could be as high as 1,300 hp if Lucid installs a tri-motor setup. Pricing is estimated to fall within the $90,000 to $170,000 range.
Lucid’s production line struggled for a good part of the year, but it appears that the brand’s woes are fading away. The company is now building about 40 to 50 cars a day, and it’s expected Lucid will closely meet, if not meet, its original goal of 20,000 vehicles this year.
