Bikers used to call cars and trucks “cages.” Well, those bikers clearly never had a Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco. After the latest Rivian announcement, we can now add the Rivian R1T to that list of convertible 4x4s.

The Rivian R1T is about to have the coolest feature from the Ford Bronco

The ability to take the roof off while off-roading is one of the greatest pleasures in all of motoring. This removable roof is arguably the most distinctive feature of the Jeep Wrangler. 

As we get deeper into the 2021 Ford Bronco possibilities, we know that Ford will not be outdone by Jeep’s standout multi-part roof. Well, now Rivian is stepping up and joining the removable roof gang. 

According to Gear Patrol, the Rivian R1T will be offered with a removable, panoramic roof sometime in 2022. Rivian mentions the option on its website but doesn’t provide any details on how it plans on boosting the coolest feature from the Bronco.  

More importantly than how it will work is the question of how much will it cost? Rivian hasn’t offered any pricing information on this killer feature, but something tells me it won’t be cheap.

Aside from toplessness being an innate Jeep Wrangler trait and one that is soon to be synonymous with the Ford Bronco, too, this will likely be a very popular option for the Rivian R1T. 

When is the R1T coming out? 

According to Gear Patrol, Rivian, like many others, suffered from COVID-19 related production delays. The good news is that we should see real Rivians out in the world very soon.

The most likely delivery timeline is wheels down by June. The SUV version, the Rivian R1S, will likely start deliveries in the later summer, around August. 

Aside from Rivian stealing the coolest feature from the Ford Bronco and the jeep Wrangler, it has some other killer options and accessories as well. Rivian designers have been hard at work to think through the coolest 4×4 and EV features they could give the lineup.

So far, the Rivian trucks will benefit from several rad features that should make off-roading better and more comfortable. The Rivian trucks will not only have this removable panoramic roof but will also have an electric kitchen attachment, wild custom wraps, and the “tank turn.” 

This tank turn is one of the coolest features of any car ever. It basically allows the Rivian to about-face or turns a complete 360-degree turn on a dime. This fancy maneuver is actually pretty simple, thanks to the Rivian’s quad electric motors. 

Basically, one side of the truck’s wheels goes forward while the other side goes in reverse. These counteracting forces let the truck pull a tight 360-degree turn without having to bust a three-pointer. 

Rivian is going to change the game

Although the Rivian R1T took the coolest feature from the Ford Bronco, it has so many unique features that make it stand out.

Really, the Rivian line is like Bruce Lee; they take the coolest parts of the off-road and EV worlds and leave the worst parts. These trucks have serious potential to dominate the electric truck market if Rivian can deliver on all these rad features.
