When we first saw the words Rivian Scout, our imaginations ran wild. Scout is an excellent word for off-roading and adventuring. There was even the International Scout that competed against Jeep in the ’80s. But unfortunately, Rivian Scout means something different. 

What is Rivian Scout? 

Documents for Rivian Scout were recently discovered. If you got excited about a smaller, square-shaped electric off-roading vehicle, then you aren’t alone. We quickly imagined a Wrangler and Bronco-like Rivian conquering the wild. 

However, Rivian Scout isn’t a vehicle. The filing documents indicate that the mark is for service mark. This is normally reserved for services rendered instead of goods to be sold. The document lists repair of specialized electric automotive vehicles, maintenance, and service as its primary function.  

Rivian is preparing to scale production 

Rivian Scout serves as a way to ensure customer satisfaction once electric vehicles are finally delivered to customers. A customer service network is needed to help owners in case any issues arise. 

If a Rivian R1T or R1S breaks, people will need a place to have them repaired. It’s unclear how many Scout locations will be available. The service centers could be dealerships as well, but that seems less likely. 

Currently, you can order a Rivian R1T or R1S on the Rivian site or by calling the service line. You can schedule a test drive, place an order, or request service without leaving your home. Rivian stays without during the entire process to provide a direct customer experience. 

You can only schedule a test drive if you pre-order a vehicle and place a deposit down. This is due to the huge pre-order base Rivian has. But they haven’t disclosed how many pre-orders they have. 

Anyways, the vehicle shows up at your home for a test drive. Test drives will be open to those who haven’t pre-ordered a vehicle soon. 

This makes us wonder if Rivian Scout will have physical locations or if your truck will be picked up if it has a problem. But we will have to wait a little longer to learn about this trademark and Rivian’s future plans. 

Is the Rivian R1S like the Scout? 

While we continue to dream about a Rivian Scout SUV, we can at least take a look at the Rivian R1S SUV. The old International Scout was manufactured from 1961 to 1980 as a jeep rival. It was a truck with a removable roof and folding windshield. 

The Rivian R1S is a larger electric SUV with up to seven seats. You can opt for only five seats if you don’t need a third row. It’s much larger than the single-cab Scout. It can also accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about three seconds and tow up to 7,700 lbs.

It has an EPA-estimated range of 315 miles and ford water over three feet deep. The ground clearance can be adjusted between 8.8 to 14.9 inches to make loading cargo or climbing over obstacles easier.  

The R1S starts at $70,000. Even though it’s much larger than the original Scout, there’s plenty to be excited about. It provides space for the entire family, tons of cargo, equipment, can tackle the wild, and comes with more than enough power.
