Rivian Takeover: EV Automaker Breaks Production and Sales Record
The year 2022 was a rollercoaster for electric vehicle automaker Rivian. The company had a historic IPO in 2021. In 2022 the company’s stock plummeted by over 64%. Rivian is finding its place in the industry while trailblazing in the EV space. Things finally seem to be looking up for the company as Q3 sales and production numbers arrive.
Rivian is finding its footing in an unstable market
Some of the largest and most established automakers have had difficulties related to the supply chain, global pandemic, and economic uncertainty in 2022. Even Big Three automaker Ford has struggled with major supply chain issues. Tesla experienced similar issues and had to adjust its pricing on popular models several times to the dismay of consumers.
Rivian recently axed the Explore base trim level for its Rivian R1T electric truck and Rivian R1S electric SUV. The EVs are more expensive than ever before, but their capabilities have convinced consumers to take a chance on the company. Rivian is in its infancy compared to more established automakers, and it has already experienced its fair share of growing pains.
There’s plenty of potential for growth as America develops more electric vehicle charging infrastructure and the general public warms up to the idea of EVs. According to InsideEVs, Rivian had a record quarter for production and sales. Production and sales have steadily increased in 2022. Is Rivian positioned to achieve sales success as 2023 inches closer?
Is Rivian charging free?
Cars.com claims that Rivian gives buyers a free year of a membership subscription that includes perks like unlimited free charging at select Rivian charging stations. After the free year of membership expires, Rivian owners will have to pay a fee to renew their subscription to the membership program.
Rivian’s truck and SUV boast incredible performance specs
Rivian’s electric vehicles are pricier than the average new vehicle. Even Telsa EVs are more affordable than Rivian’s electric truck and SUV. That being said, the R1T and R1S are designed with greatness in mind. Both the R1T and R1S have incredible off-roading capabilities thanks to their adjustable air suspension and 14.9 inches of ground clearance.
Rivian R1T and R1S Launch Edition models can produce 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque. The EVs can go from 0-60 miles per hour in around 3.2 seconds.
What’s next for Rivian?
Rivian will do its best to fulfill orders and increase its sales numbers in Q4. CNBC claims that the automaker is recalling 13,000 EVs over a loose fastener. The company is still going through growing pains. In 2023 it will attempt stable growth in a market that has been unforgiving for even the most seasoned automakers.
