What Rivian Taught Drivers About Electric Off-Road Vehicles
Rivian is producing some of the most dynamic electric vehicles in the industry. The automaker produced America’s first electric pickup truck. Rivian’s EVs are opening new doors for electric vehicles.
The Rivian R1T Launch Edition is groundbreaking
The Rivian R1T Launch Edition is the first electric pickup truck in America. The R1T Launch Edition is a groundbreaking model because of its power, quickness, and off-roading prowess.
The R1T Launch Edition makes an astonishing 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque. The electric pickup truck can go from 0-60 miles per hour in about 3.3 seconds. The R1T is currently the quickest pickup truck on the market.
MotorTrend claims that the EV has 14.5 inches of ground clearance. According to an off-road buying guide by Edmunds, vehicles with 8.5 inches of ground clearance and above are best for off-roading.
The R1T has accomplished incredible feats including conquering Moab Utah’s Hell’s Gate obstacle on the Hell’s Revenge off-road trail. EVs were once perceived as incapable and weak. Rivian is changing the narrative. The Rivian R1T has a 34-degree approach angle, a 29.3-degree departure angle, and a breakover angle of 25.7 degrees. It has a wading depth of over 3.0 feet. Rivian has paved the way for future electric adventure vehicles, and competitors are already on the way.
Jeep is entering the electric adventure vehicle space
Stellantis brand Jeep is targeting the same audience as Rivian with its upcoming electric vehicles. Jeep recently introduced three new electric vehicle nameplates as part of its Jeep 4xe Day.
Jeep is producing the Jeep Recon, a compact electric SUV that appears to be very similar to the Jeep Wrangler. The Recon could arguably be more capable off-road than the Wrangler because of its electric powertrain.
Jeep understands that electric powertrains open up a new world of possibilities for off-road vehicles. Since it’s one of the most prevalent producers of off-road SUVs, it’s only natural that Jeep produce several off-road electric vehicle nameplates.
The upcoming Jeep Recon, Jeep Wagoneer S, and Jeep Avenger could be extremely impactful for the brand because of the vehicles’ fully-electric powertrains and off-roading prowess. Other automakers will likely try and replicate the success that Rivian and Jeep achieve with their electric off-road vehicle nameplates.
Electric off-road vehicles are the future
Off-road electric vehicles are the future of off-road vehicles. EVs have proven their potential off-road and the industry could see a huge electric off-road vehicle boom in the next five years.
