Rolls-Royce Spectre: The First Fully Electric Rolls-Royce Has Quietly Arrived
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced today that the brand’s first fully electric vehicle is called the Spectre. Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös confirmed that the electric Spectre will be available at the end of 2023. The complete design was concealed under a wrap with glowing words covering most of the details.
What we know about the Rolls-Royce Spectre so far
The electric Rolls-Royce is big news for the company. According to the press release, the Spectre “fulfills the 1900 prophecy of the marque’s founder, Charles Rolls.” At one time, the CEO agreed to bring an electric vehicle to the market by this decade. The luxury carmaker plans to cover more than 1.5 million miles in global testing, “a simulation of 400 years of use.”
“Today is the most significant day in the history of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars since 4th May, 1904. On that date, our founding fathers, Charles Rolls and Sir Henry Royce, first met and agreed that they were going to create ‘the best motor car in the world.'”

Rolls-Royce plans to be fully electric by 2030, and the new Spectre is leading the way. The brand’s “spaceframe architecture” will underpin the Rolls-Royce Spectre. Though the brand has hinted at EVs before, this is finally confirmation.
The Electric Rolls-Royce appears to be a two-door coupe
The luxury brand says that 117 years after that initial agreement, the next chapter begins. Rolls-Royce plans to elevate the electric vehicle revolution by creating the most refined super-luxury vehicle. The press release clarifies that the Rolls-Royce Spectre is not a prototype. The automaker says the EV will be tested on the roads soon enough.
Based on the design, it keeps the luxury-sedan style that the automaker is known for. It shows a two-door coupe-style vehicle that appears to use the same Architecture of Luxury spaceframe. Some of the text on the car has phrases like “perfectly noiseless and clean” in addition to “strive for perfection in everything you do.”
While it seemed Rolls-Royce was a bit slow to take up the electrification trend, perhaps the brand was getting everything right behind the scenes. It shouldn’t be too long before more vehicles are added to the lineup, in that case. Just last week, the first fully electric Rolls-Royce plane took flight. The Spirit of Innovation is working toward bringing electric passenger plans to the market.
The electric history of the luxury automaker
The history of the luxury brand was always pointing in the direction of the Rolls-Royce Spectre. Sir Henry Royce started a company called F. H. Royce and Company that created electric crane motors over 100 years ago.
Charles Rolls drove an electric car called the Columbia back in April of 1900. After that, he dreamt of a “perfectly noiseless and clean” electric vehicle. He even thought of a fixed charging station to keep the cars running smoothly.
Back in 2011, the 102EX was an all-electric Rolls-Royce Phantom. That evolved into the 103EX in 2016, which has further developed into the Spectre. Hopefully, the brand will release more information about the Spectre in the next few months.
