The RV Women’s Alliance has launched a new program to inspire women to consider taking on recreational vehicle industry-related projects. The Drab-to-Fab program will unfold over the course of six months at the RV Technical Institute in Elkhart, Indiana. The ultimate goal of the program is to rebuild a travel trailer.

There are underlying goals with this RV renovation

According to the official website for the Drab-to-Fab program, there are underlying goals that the program was launched to accomplish also. They are, 

• To unite RVWA’s members and the overall RV industry around a shared goal
• To inspire women to get out of their comfort zone and break down walls
• To recruit new women into the RV industry
• To develop new skills in project volunteers

Sponsors are coming alongside

The Drab-to-Fab program has seen many recreational vehicle industry sponsors come alongside for the cause. In addition to state of the art products, expertise is also being provided for the rebuild project. Of course, a little name recognition doesn’t hurt either. 

“The Drab to Fab project is going to unite our membership and industry around a shared goal, inspire women to get out of their comfort zone and literally break down walls, recruit new women into the RV industry, and develop new skills in project volunteers,” – Susan Carpenter, RV Women’s Alliance President

The Drab-to-Fab program has already begun. The ladies that have taken on the project have succeeded in tackling demolition. The project involves tearing a 2007 Crossroads Zinger double-axle travel trailer. The RV was pretty much taken down to its walls by the participants. They will continue the work on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Why take part in this RV renovation?

When asked why she volunteered for the project, Ashley Pletcher said, “I volunteered for the Drab-to-Fab project because I love the idea of uniting women together. This project has already introduced me to so many fantastic ladies that I may not have had the opportunity to meet otherwise!”

The rebuild project is being documented on social media. The RV Women’s Alliance Youtube channel has already uploaded a video with the progress from the first week of work. That video is posted below.

The program will have a big reveal on March 3, 2021. The finished travel trailer will be unveiled at the RV Hall of Fame. Afterward, one lucky raffle winner will receive the fruits of the team of ladies that worked to convert the trailer from Drab-to-Fab.

It is okay to renovate an RV

The RV industry is currently basking in the glow of booming sales. The global COVID-19 pandemic has forced many people to rethink travel. Instead of joining the masses in airports, train stations, and bus depots, many people are seeking out more isolated recreational vehicle adventures. Traveling with pop-up campers, travel trailers, fifth-wheel, and motorhomes provides a way to control the cleanliness of the environment and the number of people visiting. So, RV sales took off as people started getting claustrophobic from being in regional lockdowns. Indeed, a similar boom is occurring with most outdoors-related industries as well. Thankfully, a cause like the Drab-to-Fab program shows people that purchasing a new recreational vehicle isn’t the only to get outdoors. Renovating a used one is also a good option.
