It looks like July RV Recalls aren’t over. Over 10,000 units are affected by these newly announced issues. There is another RV recall alert in light of new information posted on the RV News website.

Summertime RV or camper adventures are supposed to be full of family fun and making memories. But if you own certain Gulf Stream, Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation, or Ford Transit units, the NHTSA has just issued a recall for some models. Thus, summer fun could be cut short.

“The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued recalls affecting certain Gulf Stream, Freightliner Customer Chassis and Ford Transit units.”

How do you know if your RV is recalled?

If your RV unit is affected by one of these recalls, the memories made this summer could be pretty different than you planned. However, in most cases, the manufacturer will contact you if your unit is affected. If you fear your RV model may be affected by a recall, contact the manufacturer or check the VIN on the NHTSA website to learn what steps to take before hitting the road.

Gulf Stream Coach RV recall alert

Some Gulf Stream Coach RVs and camper trailers have trouble with an axle that could contact the black water holding tank. Certain 2020-2021 Super-Lite 19RD Travel Trailers are being recalled. Apparently, when the black water tank is full, there is a clearance issue between the tank and the axle. If there is contact, the black water tank may get a hole which would spill the contents out onto the road. Not only is this really gross, it’s also deemed a hazard that increases the risk of a crash.

According to RV News, Gulf Stream is expected to let owners know if their unit is affected by an RV recall. Additionally, dealers should replace the problem axle with a new drop axle. This enables more clearance between the holding tank for black water and the top of the axle tube.

Daimler Trucks North America

Additionally, the RV recall alert extends to Daimler trucks. According to RV News, the NHTSA has recalled some Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) models as well. The list of FCCC affected models for the RV recall alert is pretty long. Therefore several models from various years are included.

Many FCCC RV chassis received a previous ‘inspection-only’ remedy from the earlier recall 18V-582. The recall affects 12,038 units. Models are as follows:

• 2016-2019 XCM
• 2017-2020 XCS
• 2018-2019 XBR
• 2017-2019 XBS
• 2016-2019 XCL
• 2017-2020 XCP
• 2016-2020 XCR

Beware, because the rear-mounted Power Distribution Module (PDM) could have incurred damage during manufacturing. This possibly leads to malfunctioning brake lights, turn signals, and rear marker lights. For obvious reasons, this can increase the risk of a crash. According to RV News “DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the PDM, free of charge. This recall is expected to begin September 10, 2020.”

Ford Motor Co.

The last camper and RV related recall alert is active for Ford Motor Co. 2020 Transit vans. According to RV News, this is an airbag issue. Side curtain airbags in affected vehicles could have an improperly crimped diffuser. Obviously, this can result in an inflation malfunction. Issues with airbag inflations can inevitably lead to an increased risk of injury in the event of an accident.
