RV Recall Alert: Several Brands – Gas Leaks, Brakes, Hoses, and Heat Shields
The recreational vehicle industry is subject to recalls, just like cars and trucks are. The only difference is that an RV may not be used as much as a car or truck. Regardless, a safety issue is still a safety issue and needs to be called out. So, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has recently identified some potentially dangerous RV related things and wants to get the word out to consumers about a recall or five.
Recall: Daimler Vans – Brake Hose and Line
A sudden loss of braking ability is a terrible thing. But, it is possible for 2019-2020 Mercedes-Benz Metris right-hand drive vans. Of these vehicles, 562 of them have been found to have fittings between the brake hose and the brake line with leakage potential due to incorrect installation.
Daimler Vans USA will reach out to owners to let them know of the recall. Dealers will inspect and correct the fittings as necessary at no charge. Concerned owners can contact DVUSA’s Customer Service at 1-877-762-8267. The reference recall number is VS2BREMPOS
Recall: Forest River – Leaking gas valves
This recall is regarding Dometic 3 burner stoves that may have an overtightened saddle valve bolt. This kind of situation can damage an o-ring seal and cause “a continuous gas leak”. Of course, leaking gas is a potential fire hazard; hence, the need for a recall.
A total of 4,203 units are affected. Forest River will reach out to the owners beginning January 2, 2021, and dealers will provide a fix free of charge. In the meantime, concerned customers can reach out to Forest River Customer Service at 1-574-825-4995 or Dometic’s Customer Service at 1-574-293-0681. The reference number for the recall is 51-1259.
The affected RVs wear the following brand and model names,
“2019 Coachmen Chaparral and Shasta, 2019-2020 Coachmen Concord and Orion, 2020-2021 Coachmen Cross Trek and Forest River Berkshire, 2019-2021 Coachmen Freelander, Leprechaun and Prism, 2020 Coachmen Mirada, Pursuit and Sportscoach, Dynamax Force, DX3, Dynaquest XL, and Isata and Forest River Wildwood and 2008 and 2020 Forest River Salem”
Recall: Forest River – Outdoor Grills
RV outdoor propane grills are the subject of this recall. A total of 115 units of 2021 East to West Della Tera and Silver Lake trailers can have the grill stowed while the burners are still on. This is an increased fire hazard. To prevent this, “dealers will move the propane hose connection to the edge of the drawer slide in the outside kitchen, free of charge.”
Forest River will begin notifying the owners about the safety action on January 16, 2021. However, any concerned customers can reach out to 1-574-264-6664. The recall reference number is 500-1265.
Recall: Forest River – Brake hose
Leaking brake hoses are the cause for this safety action. Of course, any loss of braking function increases the possibility of a crash. There are 3 RV units affected by the recall of the 2021 Coachmen Galleria motorhomes. The brake hoses may have been damaged during the manufacture of the vehicles.
This recall began December 10, 2020, with Forest River and Daimler Vans USA reaching out to customers. Owners my contacts Forest River at 1-574-825-6310, DVUSA at 1-877-762-8267. The reference number for the safety action is 51-1263.
Triple E Recreational Vehicles
Cooking can be fun, but not if the cabinets above the cooktop catch fire. There are 95 RVs from Triple E that have missing heat shields. So, Triple E will be reaching out to certain 2020-2021 Unity U24RL motorhome owners to let them know a repair kit will be installed free of charge by the dealer. Any concerned owners may reach Customer Service at 1-877-992-9906. The reference recall number is CA#9845-1
Take care of it now, have fun later
The winter is probably the best time to take care of a recall on an RV. The units are not typically used as much during this season. So, there won’t be as much lost vacation adventure time with the vehicles. While you are at it, changing the smoke and monoxide detector batteries might be a good idea too! Nothing spoils a good vacation than a safety issue. So, take care of them as soon as possible. The quicker it’s taken care of, the sooner peace of mind and vacation planning can go on.
