The NHTSA has been busy issuing safety actions for the recreational vehicle industry these last few months. Sadly, the trend continues. A few more RVs have been added to this month’s list of recalls. As annoying as a recall can be, they are still important and need to be tended to.

Thor Motor Coach: Water in the wrong places

Water seems to be getting into the battery isolation manger and relay. In a worst-case scenario, this seepage creates electrical arcing. Of course, this is bad. Electrical arcing increases the risk of fire. According to the NHTSA’s statement,

“Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Daybreak, Four Winds, Chateau, Freedom Elite, Quantum motorhomes built on a Chevrolet chassis. The BIM (Battery Isolation Manager)/BIR (Battery Isolation Relay) is not watertight when exposed to engine compartment heat.”

There are a total of 1,074 units affected by the recall. The manufacturer will notify owners, and dealers will make a repair free of charge beginning January 17, 2021. However, if owners have questions, customer service for Thor is available at 1-877-855-2867. The reference for this safety action is RC000206.

Triple E RV: Bad propane connection

The NHTSA has issued this recall as a consequence of an improper propane fitting. The poor connection means leakage is possible. So, this certainly raises the risk of fire to the owner of the RV.

“Triple E is recalling certain 2019-2020 Serenity S24CB, 2019-2021 Unity U24MB, U24RL, U24FX, U24CB, U24IB, U24TB, and 2019-2021 Wonder W24FTB, W24RTB, W24RL, W24MB motorhomes. An incorrect brass connector was used on the propane connection to the flared connection of the Truma water heater fitting. The connector did not have the correct bevel to seal to the Truma water heater swivel fitting.”

Triple E has notified owners of the 832 affected units. Dealers will replace the incorrect connector free of charge. The notice says the recall began November 17, 2020. Triple E customer service can be reached at 1-877-992-9906. The reference for the recall is CA#9822-1.

Winnebago: Undersized axles recall

Winnebago makes many trailers. But, the NHTSA recall only affects the 2021 Micro Minni trailers. A total of 106 of the units have undersized axles. This means the axles may not be able to support the weight of the vehicle. This, of course, presents a crash hazard as the axles may break. According to the statement,

“Winnebago will notify owners, and dealers will replace the 2,500-pound rated axle with the correct 4,000-pound rated axle, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-6939 or 1-800-537-1885.”

A recall is annoying. Having to work daily schedules around to drop an RV off for a necessary recall service is a pain. Yet, it is necessary. RVs are supposed to be for fun getaways. A safe traveling environment contributes to that. So, safety hazards should be taken care of right away. If you are affected, please take action as necessary.
