It seems the price of a low-mileage limited edition Honda of any variety just continues to grow and grow. Not long ago, the world saw the eye-watering sale of an Integra Type R with a final hammer price of over $112,000. Additionally, an S2000 CR also fetched a price north of $112,000 in February 2021. Now, though, that CR’s price is completely blown out of the water.

What’s the difference between S2000 and CR?

This Rio Yellow 2009 Honda S2000 CR (club racer) on Bring A Trailer came to a close over the weekend to the eye-watering tune of $200,000. That marks a jump over the above-mentioned S2000 CR’s price of nearly $88,000. So, there are probably plenty of folks wondering what exactly makes this car worth it.

The S2000 is, even in standard form, a fantastic car with remarkable handling capabilities. In 2009, the S2000 had a 2.2-liter high-revving VTEC four-cylinder engine that made 237 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. It has a low center of gravity, sporty suspension, a limited-slip differential, and manual transmission to make the ultimate driver’s car in ultra-fun roadster form.

However, in 2008, Honda produced the S2000 Club Racer, which is an even more track-oriented version of the S2000. The CR has stiffer suspension that sacrifices a bit of ride quality and substitutes more grip. Additionally, the CR is identifiable by the rear wing. If this all sounds good to you, though, don’t get too excited. Honda only made 700 of them.

So, combining the extremely limited production with this car’s mileage, the $200,000 price tag starts to add up. With only 123 miles on the odometer, it’s hard to judge whether the original owner ever even drove it or if those were all test drive miles from a dealership. It’s hard to imagine buying such a limited car, immediately stowing it away, and never driving it. However, there are undoubtedly people who have done it. This may very well be one of those cases!

This isn’t the first CR to claim a massive price this year, either

In February 2022, another S2000 CR sold on Bring A Trailer for a remarkable price. Though it had far more miles at 5,500, it still managed to fetch a price of $122,500.

That doesn’t mean, though, that there aren’t still great deals out there. While the prices have certainly inflated like every other used vehicle, the Honda S2000 still represents a relatively affordable sports car if you can find the right deal. Last month an S2000 CR with 86,000 miles on it sold for “only” $45,750. Despite its mileage, it’s safe to assume that, because it’s a CR, it’s only going to keep going up.

Additionally, driver’s grade S2000 examples that still have under 100,000 miles on them churn out on Bring A Trailer for under $30,000 regularly. So, if you’re looking for an appreciating asset that’s fun to drive, the S2000 might be the answer!
