S650 Ford Mustang To Debut With a Stampede
The next generation of Ford Mustang is upon us, and the muscle car means a couple of pretty big things for Ford. First, the S650 Ford Mustang will likely be the last traditional V8-powered Ford pony car ever. Next, we are unlikely to see more solely gas-powered offerings after the seventh-generation Mustang, considering the auto industry’s focus on hybridization and alternative energy vehicles. However, for the time being, we can revel in the sound of a V8 Mustang once more; Ford will unveil the new S650 at the Detroit Auto Show in September 2022.
When will Ford unveil the new S650 Ford Mustang?
Ford Motor Company plans to unveil the new seventh-generation S650 2024 Ford Mustang on the 14th of September, 2022. It marks the end of a nine-year tenure for the S550 generation car. The S550 represented a quantum leap for the Mustang, with a lower, wider body and independent rear suspension. Still, while spy photos and renders suggest that the S650 won’t look too different from the first S550s (2015-2017), they will be very different cars.
Where will Ford reveal the new S650 Ford Mustang?
Ford is planning to unveil the new 2024 Ford Mustang at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, often referred to as the Detroit Auto Show. It’s an appropriate venue in the cradle of the American auto industry. According to Car and Driver, many enthusiasts expected the marque to unveil the seventh-gen car on the Mustang’s 60th anniversary in April 2023. However, CEO Jim Farley and the Stampede ad campaign confirm that the new Mustang is here, and we’ll see it in September.
What do we know about the seventh-generation Mustang?
The S650 Ford Mustang will likely get carryover engines from the S550. That means we will probably get the turbocharged 2.3L EcoBoost and some derivation of the 5.0L V8 engine that Mustang fans revere. However, Car and Driver believes there may be a hybrid variant of either the four-cylinder or eight-cylinder cars. Finally, MotorTrend suggests that the new Mustang will start at around $30,000 for the EcoBoost and $40,000 for the GT.
Better yet, Farley recently reiterated that the 2024 S650 Ford Mustang would get a manual transmission. So don’t fret; the V8-powered Ford Mustang with a manual isn’t riding off into the sunset just yet. Furthermore, Car and Driver says the S650’s interior is supposed to receive a refresh to replace the S550’s tired cockpit. At the very least, we know it’s going to sound great.
Will the seventh-generation Mustang be the only muscle car?
Dodge recently announced that it would retire the Dodge Challenger and Charger with a series of “Last Call” models. Despite the S650 Ford Mustang continuing into a 2024 model year, Dodge will lay its muscle car duo to rest. Furthermore, Chevrolet announced that it will discontinue the venerable Camaro in 2024 in favor of something electrified. That’s huge for the Ford Mustang.
That means the Mustang will continue to serve as the original and longest-lasting pony car ever. Although, the solitary muscle car will likely come to a similar end (or evolution) to conform with industry direction and federal regulations.
