Safe New SUVs With the Best Safety Packages and What to Opt For
Cars, trucks, and SUVs are safer than ever before. However, some automakers offer even more car safety features through various add-ons. These are some safe new SUVs with the best safety packages buyers can add on for even more protection on the road. The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) systems listed here might go by different names, depending on the automaker.
The Mazda CX-30 is a safe new SUV, and the best safety package is the 2.5 S trim
When Kelley Blue Book chose some safe new SUVs, the 2022 Mazda CX-30 received a 4.7 expert rating. With all-wheel drive standard, the CX-30 has a lot to offer buyers right off the bat. The 2.5 S trim with the auto-dimming mirror offers the best safety value. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) already gave the 2022 CX-30 the Top Safety Pick Plus award.
Included with this trim are adaptive cruise control (ACC), lake-keeping assist (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW), and driver monitoring system (DMS). Forward collision warning (FCW) and automatic emergency braking (AEB) is also included. While the 2.5 S is the base trim, it still offers the best safety value.
Best Safety Value: $22,775 (2.5 S + auto-dimming mirror)
Base Price: $22,500 | Expert Rating: 4.7
The Toyota RAV4 Prime is a safe new SUV; opt for the SE trim
Regarding the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime, Kelley Blue Book gave it a 4.8 overall. The RAV4 Prime is the plug-in hybrid version of the safe and popular RAV4 SUV. It has also received the Top Safety Pick Plus award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
KBB suggests the SE trim level, which comes with ACC, blind-spot monitoring (BSM), and rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA). The RAV4 Prime already comes with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which offers FCW, AEB, and LDW.
Best Safety Value: $40,300 (SE)
Base Price: $40,300 | Expert Rating: 4.8
Check out the Genesis GV70 in the 2.5T trim
The 2022 Genesis GV70 received a 4.8 score from Kelley Blue Book, which means this SUV is already pretty safe. Genesis includes all-wheel drive on the GV70, but the 2.5T is the best value trim to go for. The base level has automatic headlights, taillights, and eight airbags.
FCW, AEB, ACC, LKA, and lane-following assist (LFA) are standard safety features on the GV70. BSM, RCTA, and driver monitoring system (DMS) are also included. Genesis offers a semi-autonomous driving system called highway driving assist that is helpful, too.
Best Safety Value: $41,500 (2.5T AWD Standard)
Base Price: $41,500 | Expert Rating: 4.8
The Hyundai Santa Fe is a safe new SUV, but KBB suggests a few additional safety packages
The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe received a 4.7 score overall from Kelley Blue Book. This SUV focuses on safety and comes with features like automatic headlights and high-beam assist for easier driving. The safety systems ACC, LKA, LFA, and DMS are included in the base model.
Kelley Blue Book suggests the SEL trim along with the Premium package. Thanks to the semiconductor chip shortage, BSM, RCTA, and safe exit assist are no longer on the base trim. Jumping up to the SEL gives you those safety features and more. The Premium package will run buyers $4,060, but it comes with LED taillights and Highway Driving Assist.
Best Safety Value: $31,150 (SEL + Premium Pkg)
Base Price: $27,700 | Expert Rating: 4.7
While most of these safe SUVs offer similar features, most automakers name each system differently. If you are looking for something in particular, such as blind-spot warning, it might just be hiding under a different name. You can usually decipher what the system does by checking our Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) guide. These are some safe new SUVs with the best safety packages chosen by Kelley Blue Book.
