Luxury and safety go hand in hand for the 2021 Infiniti Q60. Although reviewers aren’t totally impressed with its performance, the Q60 is adding quite a few new standard safety features, as well as some spruced-up paint options, MotorTrend reports. Here’s what you can expect from the newest model of this luxury coupe.

A new suite of standard safety features

While the 2021 Infiniti Q60 doesn’t have too many changes compared to the 2020 model, one major area of improvement is in its safety features. Equipment that now comes standard on this coupe includes a 360-degree view parking camera system, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beams, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and blind-spot warning.

In addition to these updated features, the 2021 model remixed its exterior paint options, adding blue and gray.

Infiniti Q60 specs

While the Infiniti Q60 has adopted some aesthetic and safety updates in this model, performance-wise it hasn’t really strayed from the 2020 Q60. It has a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine that makes 300 hp, with fuel economy estimates of 19 miles per gallon in the city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway. 

The Q60 has two touchscreen displays: eight inches on the top screen, and seven inches on the bottom. Its other features include a Bluetooth hands-free phone system, remote keyless entry, and an intelligent key backup slot to ensure that the car can start even if the key fob has run out of battery. 

The Infiniti Q60 also comes in a Red Sport 400 model. This has an option for revised carbon-fiber interior trim.

Where the Q60 falls short

Although the Infiniti Q60 boasts a luxury badge, its ride experience leaves a little something to be desired, reports MotorTrend. In particular, the Q60 struggles on bumpy roads, making for some fairly uncomfortable drives.

This coupe also struggles with steering, especially when compared to its competitors. And, while the new dual-screen infotainment system may look sleek and modern, MotorTrend describes it as “clumsy and slow to respond.”

What reviewers have to say

Edmunds, too, reports a less-than-favorable impression of the 2021 Infiniti Q60, stating that the vehicle “has trouble backing up its looks and muscle.” The interior is somewhat dated, and, like MotorTrend, Edmunds reviewers found the electronic steering to be a little vague for such a sporty vehicle. Additionally — and disappointingly — Edmunds notes that the new driver assistance tech doesn’t match the quality of that found in competing luxury coupes.

MotorTrend observes that the attractive styling of the Infiniti Q60 is nice, but doesn’t make for a true luxury experience. While the Q60 is fine as a regular commuter car, it may not suit those folks who are looking for a high-performing luxury sport coupe.

However, it’s not all bad. The cabin has quality materials, and the Q60 offers rapid acceleration and a smooth transmission. And while its styling may not make up for its shortcomings, there’s no doubt that it’s beautiful to look at, rising above some of its more expensive luxury rivals.

If you love the look of the Q60 but aren’t sure about its performance, you may just want to wait until the 2022 model, says Edmunds. The 2021 Q60 made some small upgrades, but the next model year is likely to have more significant improvements.

Overall, the 2021 Infiniti Q60 is certainly prioritizing safety, and it continues to demonstrate impressive aesthetics and a speedy drive. However, its less optimal driving experience, clunky infotainment system, and dated interior mean that anyone looking for a true luxury Infiniti experience might be better off waiting a year.
