The Saturn Vue was a compact SUV produced from 2002 to 2009. It offered a range of features that made it an attractive option for all types of drivers – from young couples to growing families.

Those who enjoyed taking their adventures off-roading or live in extreme weather conditions may have looked for a vehicle equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD). So, did the Saturn Vue offer car shoppers AWD?

The first generation: 2002–2007 Saturn Vue model years

The first generation of the Saturn Vue began production in 2001 and ended in 2007. During this time, all models were equipped with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD). This made it easy for buyers to decide between a vehicle with more power or one with better handling in different weather conditions. The AWD system was based on GM’s Autotrac system, which allowed drivers to switch between 2WD and 4WD modes depending on their driving needs. The system also included a locking differential for extra traction when needed.

The second generation of the Saturn Vue started production in 2007 and ended in 2009. Most of this model generation included front-wheel drive and AWD options, like the first production set. Additionally, it featured a more advanced version of GM’s Autotrac system known as “Quadratic.” This new system allowed drivers to choose from three different driving modes—2WD, auto/4WD, or 4WD lock mode—making it easier to control their vehicle’s performance in different road conditions.

The last and final model year: 2010 Saturn Vue

The 2010 model year marked the end of production for the Saturn Vue due to General Motors discontinuing the Saturn brand. As a result, none of the 2010 models came with AWD because production was ending. According to AutoTrends, “Unlike GM’s other automotive brands, including Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac, Saturn was managed separately at the start, but eventually was brought into the GM matrix, then later dissolved.”

The Vue offered AWD on select model years

We can see that most models of the Saturn Vue did offer all-wheel drive during its production run from 2001 to 2009. However, due to General Motors discontinuing its Saturn brand after 2009, none of the 2010 Vue models came with AWD. The reason is likely due to the Saturn brand shutting down, so it wasn’t a priority. J.D. Power even mentions that after a complete redesign for the 2009 model, the Saturn Vue had no changes in its last year of production. Despite this fact, many older versions of this popular compact SUV still offer excellent performance thanks to its AWD capabilities.
