Save Some Money With the Most Efficient New Trucks of 2022
2022 may just be the year of the truck. Several automakers are rolling out all-new trucks that have us very excited. One trend that should be easy on the planet, and our wallets, is the tendency toward more efficient trucks. Check out these four from Ford, Toyota, and Rivian.
2022 Ford Maverick
Ford revived the Maverick name for its new compact pickup truck. With a sub-$20,000 starting price and 40+ mpg estimated fuel economy (for the hybrid/FWD model), the Maveric is the picture of efficiency.
This truck shares its unibody chassis with the Bronco. It is so nimble and efficient, you might even forget you’re driving a truck–until you need its 4.5-foot bed.

2022 Toyota Tundra
For the 2022 Tundra redesign, Toyota tossed the V8 in favor of a twin-turbocharged V6. The new engine improves the old Tundra’s power output by a bit and its fuel efficiency by a lot.
The automaker predicts its new truck will get 17 city/22 highway mpg (19 combined). Better yet, a hybrid version of the V6 powertrain will make more torque than the Ford Raptor and go into production this spring.

2022 Rivian R1T
Rivian’s mission is, “Keep the world adventurous forever.” Guided by this goal, the buzzy startup is building environmentally friendly 4x4s and even donating money to land conservation.
The Rivian R1T was the first electric truck to market. It leads the pack with the industry’s only quad-motor drive, a feature sure to make it unstoppable on the trail.

2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
Just like the Rivian R1T, the Ford F-150 Lightning is a fully-electric vehicle. It is the first major American pickup truck to go electric. With classic looks and a utilitarian design, the Lightning rings in the future with style. From a 110-volt power-inverter capable of powering your home in an emergency to a reinforced front trunk, it seems the Detroit company thought of everything.
One of the most efficient things about the F-150 Lightning is its price: the new Ford starts under $40,000. After you cash in its EV tax credit, you get to take home the cheapest four-door, 4WD, full-size truck available.
