According to Pickup Truck Talk, this might be why the Ram 1500 regular cab and short bed configuration is dying. This option is being dropped due to changing customer demands and rising emission standards. 

Crew cabs are now the most popular option, and trucks with short beds have a smaller wheelbase. But smaller options also have more strict emission standards to meet. So, it’s easier to make trucks longer, because the emission regulations aren’t as intense. 

A majority of automakers have discovered that it’s more profitable to make bigger trucks instead of developing cleaner engines for smaller options. Ford dropped the single cab Ford Ranger but now has the new Ford Maverick. It’s still a four-door truck, though. 

What’s new for the 2023 Ram truck? 

The 2023 Ram 1500 is making changes to become greener as Stellantis focuses on creating the Ram 1500 EV. You may not have known that the regular cab option was still available, which proves interest is dying. 

However, the popular EcoDiesel is also being dropped. It’s your last chance to get the Ram 1500 with the 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel engine that cranks out 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. Production will end in January, so this is the last call. 

This engine gets an EPA-estimated 29 mpg on the highway with 4×4 models. It gets up to 32 mpg on the highway when paired with 2WD. It has a 1,000-mile range with a single fill-up. Also, the Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,560 lbs with the diesel engine. 

The new 12.3-inch frameless digital gauge cluster is highly customizable and easy to use. Plus, the RED edition includes a UV light in the glove box to sanitize items. It has a three-minute cycle that kills bacteria. 

Is the 2023 1500 worth buying? 

Yes, the 2023 Ram 1500 is still worth buying, even if it doesn’t have a regular cab. The diesel engine is one of the most robust options on the market, with an excellent fuel economy. But the gas engines pack plenty of muscle too. 

Critics still rate the Ram 1500 as the best truck, even though it hasn’t been refreshed since 2019. It sets the standard for having the most comfortable ride quality, a quiet interior, and luxury features.
