Sedans Aren’t Dead Yet – 3 Reasons to Consider Buying One In 2021
In this article:
There’s no denying that SUVs are among the most popular new cars on the market today. In fact, with the popularity of SUVs on the rise, many automakers have steered their focus from manufacturing new sedans completely.
However, the demand is still out there. As a matter of fact, not too long ago, TrueCar reported roughly one in five vehicles sold fell into the sedan category. So if you think that sedans are a dying breed? Here are three reasons why they aren’t and why you should consider buying a new sedan for yourself.
These cheap sedans are more affordable than a new SUV
First things first, let’s talk about pricing. Odds are, buying a new sedan will cost you less than a new SUV. In fact, Kelley Blue Book reports that the average base price of the best new sedans ranges between $20,000 and $55,000. Meanwhile, opting for a top-rated SUV will cost you between $23,000 and $51,000.
Keep in mind, however, that pricing will depend on what size of vehicle you opt for, along with whether or not it’s considered a luxury vehicle.
As for the cheapest sedans of 2021? As it turns out, there are a few options worth considering. Take, for example, the 2021 Toyota Camry. According to Consumer Reports, this year’s Camry ranks as the best sedan of 2021. It boasts a starting price of $25,045. At its most expensive, the 2021 Toyota Camry will have you spending approximately $35,620. If you’re shopping for an affordable new car, there’s no denying that those price tags are appealing.
Enjoy better handling when you choose a sedan over an SUV
Perhaps the cost of a new car isn’t an issue for you. Instead, you would prefer a vehicle that boasts great handling. If that’s the case, then a new sedan might just be the perfect fit for you. In fact, TrueCar reports that when it comes to handling, sedans are where it’s at. “If you’re looking for superior handling, sedans are designed with an inherent advantage,” TrueCar explains.
The organization isn’t wrong, either. Sedans are often lighter than their SUV counterparts. They are also typically lower to the ground and are easier to drive. Additionally, many new sports sedans come equipped with rear-wheel drive, which TrueCar says can “make twisty roads a thrilling experience.”
The most fuel-efficient new cars are often sedans
For many, fuel efficiency is particularly important when shopping for a new car. The good news is that many of the most fuel-efficient new cars are sedans. In fact, the EPA reports that vehicles like the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid, Toyota Prius Eco Hybrid, and the Hyundai Ioniq Blue are among the most fuel-efficient new cars on the road today.
The 2021 Toyota Prius Eco, for example, delivers an EPA-estimated 58 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway. In all, this new sedan will have you driving up to 633 miles on a single tank. Even better, the EPA reports that it can save you up to $4,500 in fuel costs over five years of ownership.
Ready to buy one for yourself?
While SUVs are popular, there’s no denying that sedans have a lot to offer. So if you thought this category of vehicles wasn’t worth your consideration? It might be time to rethink that decision.
