Sedans With the Best Gas Mileage in 2019, According to KBB
Gas mileage isn’t just about saving us money at the pump anymore. Fuel economy can also help us lessen our effects on the environment and fuel-efficient features are becoming more and more of a requirement in purchasing a vehicle.
More people are turning to “greener” vehicles that can go longer without a fill up at the gas station. Better for our wallets and the world around us, sedans are becoming more fuel-efficient than ever. Here are just five of the sedans that KBB lists with the best gas mileage in 2019.
Volkswagen Jetta
The Volkswagen Jetta has been a favorite among car drivers for its small, economic, and comfortable design. With a combined fuel economy of 34 MPG and a variety of impressive features, the 2019 Jetta is affordable both at the pump and straight off the lot.
The standard Jetta comes with a 1.4-liter V4 engine that puts out 147 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, producing an estimated fuel economy of 30/40 MPG. For performance buffs, the Jetta Performance sacrifices minimal fuel economy at 25/32 MPG, with a powerful 2.0-liter V4 that puts out 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.
Hyundai Elantra
The new standard Hyundai Elantra offers an average estimated fuel economy of 35 MPG, which is a steal considering the Elantra’s affordable price.
The base model uses a 2.0-liter, 147 hp engine, while the Eco model creates the best fuel efficiency with a 1.4-liter, 128 hp V4 engine that gives you an average of 33/41 MPG. According to Car and Driver, the Hyundai Elantra Eco “isn’t a snooze to drive,” with a spacious, sophisticated interior and impressive technological features.
Toyota Camry
According to Consumer Reports, the Toyota Camry is one of the best mid-sized sedans on the market, with a spacious interior, great infotainment system, and a powerful engine that doesn’t sacrifice fuel economy.
The standard Camry gains you an average of 32 MPG with a 2.5-liter V4 engine, while the best-selling Camry Hybrid lands you an impressive overall average of 47 MPG. But the Camry isn’t just designed to maximize fuel, with a slew of safety, entertainment, and performance features always standard.
Honda Insight
Coming for competitors like Toyota, the Honda Insight offers a 1.5-liter V4 engine and a 2-motor hybrid drive system that delivers an estimated fuel economy of 55 MPG in the city and 49 MPG on the highway.
As if that wasn’t impressive enough, the Insight also offers multiple drive modes, regenerative braking, a large infotainment screen, and generous passenger space. Even KBB states that the Honda Insight’s “electric/gasoline wizardry is completely transparent,” offering a sedan that’s powerful in performance and lighter on fuel usage.
Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid
Car manufacturer Honda has been stepping up its game in producing economic cars that can compete with others on the market. Topping KBB’s list of cars with the best gas mileage, Honda’s Clarity Plug-In Hybrid can be driven for up to 47 miles on electric power, before switching over to using the gas engine, minimizing the amount of fuel you use.
The 2019 Clarity’s total range is roughly 340 miles on a complete charge and fill-up, with a combined fuel economy of 42 MPG and 110 MPGe. And if you’re lucky enough to live in a state where it’s sold, the Clarity is easy to drive and gives you the best of both electric and gas-powered vehicles.
