One of the highlights of day one of SEMA 2021 was the 2022 Lexus IS 500 build by Hiraku Co and Townsend Bell. The matte-white Lexus IS 500 was highlighted by Seibon carbon fiber, a 3D printed body kit, and clear Rotiform wheels that helped steal the show. The 2022 Lexus IS 500 build for SEMA 2021
Lexus was a significant player for press releases during the first day of SEMA 2021. The highly-anticipated 2022 Lexus IS 500 was on display with a unique flair by Hiraku Co and Townsend Bell. If you can’t recall why that name sounds familiar, Bell is a professional racing driver with some 24 Hours of Le Mans, and other racing wins under his belt. Lexus premiered a new breed of F Sport engineering this week, along with this incredible new IS 500.
Hiraku Co focused on the body kit, which was 3D printed specifically for the build. The body kit includes a “front lip spoiler, side steps, rear diffuser, front fenders, bumper canards, rear roof spoiler, and rear bumper garnish,” according to the press release. It also features a Seibon carbon fiber hood and trunk. The license plate was an additional customization that shows how serious the group was about making the 2022 Lexus IS 500 special.
Performance and styling details of the SEMA 2022 Lexus IS 500
The all-white body of the 2022 Lexus IS 500 was wrapped in Wraptialian/Orafoll Americas white vinyl, complete with subtle F-Sport details throughout. As far as performance goes, the Lexus IS 500 offered a few modifications to the 2UR-GSE V8. An A’PEXi induction box with a TOMS Racing carbon fiber suction pipe was added, along with an A’PEXi N1 Evolution Extreme Quad Tri-tip exhaust system.
Additionally, the group added 32-way adjustable coilovers and chassis braces on the front and rear suspension of the Lexus IS 500. The highlight of the vehicle happened to be brand-new and one-of-a-kind Rotiform LAS-R wheels that were finished with a clear aerodisc cover. A Brembo GT braking system with custom matching calipers was a necessary upgrade.
On the inside of the Lexus IS 500, Sparco SPX carbon fiber reclining seats and a custom Alcantara steering wheel complete the build.
Lexus is expanding the F-sport line and dividing it into four tiers
Lexus revealed an expanded range for the F and F Sport strategy ahead of 2022. This will separate the F Sport line into four distinct tiers, starting with F Sport Design. The F Sport Design tier will feature styling cues like a front grille, bumper, or wheels. The F Sport Handling tier “will build on design with sport-tuned suspension components honed at the track, including Adaptive Variable Suspension,” Lexus says. The automaker says this is highlighted in the new 2022 Lexus NX and LX.
Up from there, the F Sport performance tier will include a high-performance powertrain such as the one in the 2022 IS 500. The top tier, the F, is the highest level of Lexus performance. It will offer upgraded components developed for the track, such as brakes, aero, and lightweight materials.
