There was no shortage of cool cars to see at SEMA 2021, including this Hoonigan Chevy Camaro. The guys at Hoonigan wanted to throw the new Chevrolet Performance ZZ632/1000 DELUXE Big-Block Crate Engine into a third-gen Camaro in 21 days. Obviously, that went well, so take a look at the results.

This Chevy Camaro had quite a transformation. This Camaro was built in conjunction with the guys at Hoonigan, so you know it had to be ridiculous. The Hoonigan Chevy used the new 10.4L ZZ632/1000 Deluxe V8 engine that gets a measly 1,004 hp. Hoonigan was one of the first people to get ahold of the new Big-Block crate engine, and the build did not disappoint.

Chevrolet claims this is the most powerful crate engine ever after the brand “mastered the art of reinvention.” The ZZ632/1000 Deluxe uses EFI technology to get more than 1,000 hp. To be technical, it gets 1,004 hp at 6,600 rpm and 876 lb-ft of torque at 5,600 rpm. A warning on the product listing says the parts are intended for competition use only.

The good news? It runs on 93 octane gas, so no need to seek out race fuel for this one.

Hoonigan built the Chevy Camaro in 21 days for SEMA 2021

The chassis the ZZ632 engine was put into happened to be one of Chevy’s development cars. Chevrolet engineers used this specific Camaro for testing. The group painted the car red and used some custom Chevy bumpers for added pizzaz.

As this build was meant to be a race car, Muscle Cars & Trucks says that the guys at Hoonigan removed the air conditioning. The power steering was one of the first things to go, favoring a rack and pinion system. The suspension got some upgrades with coilovers, and there’s even a shovel hood prop for extra SEMA-ness. The swap was pretty successful, and the Hoonigan Chevy Camaro made it to SEMA after all.

In a progress video, there was actually a mock-up of the engine involved. It isn’t clear if that was to make sure the big block crate engine fit as anticipated. Perhaps it was because the group was one of the first to see the Chevrolet ZZ632/1000 engine in real life. Either way, it fit.

Unfortunately for those not working at Hoonigan, the ZZ632 crate engine starts at over $37,000. A similar engine, the Hellephant crate engine, costs just under $30,000. It gets similar numbers but might require some extra cash for necessary features. This might be the first time we see the Chevrolet Performance ZZ632/1000 DELUXE Big-Block Crate Engine, but it won’t be the last.
