Yes, the cancelation of the 2020 SEMA Show in Las Vegas was announced a while ago. So SEMA is trying to do the next best thing by having manufacturers like Toyota that normally unveil SEMA builds reveal them online. No, there isn’t the same sizzle as the hoopla and mumbo jumbo of the real thing. But if you don’t go to SEMA or can’t, then this is usually how you digest what’s there anyway. So for you this is normal, and for us, this is usually what we do at this time; write about SEMA builds. 

With all of that said here are the new projects Toyota has conjured up this year. Toyota usually has a huge presence at the SEMA Show and these new concepts prove it. Let’s take a look.

For those looking to travel off-road yet be self-sustaining, we have this Tacoma

Overlanding is the new slammed truck trend. This is good for the aftermarket because there is a lot more meat to feast on than lowered suspensions, fancy wheels, and low-profile tires. For those looking to travel off-road yet be self-sustaining, we have this Tacoma. It starts with a supercharged engine that pumps out 370 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. 

A Toyota E-locker rear is riding on a suspension lift, BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain tires, and tubular upper and lower control arms. The aluminum skid plate protects from damaging terrain, and aluminum bumpers and rock sliders push back the brush.

For added visuals, there is a 40-inch LED light bar on top and a winch in front. Rounding out the presentation is a Toyota snorkel, a rack system to help organize camping accouterments, and a roof-top tent for restful containment without the dirt and bugs.

Not all concepts can be useful or good

Next up is the Ornamental Conifer GR Supra. Hipster slogans have been wallpapered onto the Supra’s body without much context, aesthetic considerations, or need. It is supposed to be a collaboration with a pop culture group but as with most pop culture, it is already out before it was ever in. So much for this waste of floor space, let’s move on…

This Supra actually has a function which is for drifting. Built for the Formula D series this is GReddy’s take. This GR Supra huffs a big BorgWarner EFR 9280 turbo backed by a six-speed sequential transmission.

The wide-body kit is from Rocket Bunny, with lots of mods done to the chassis and suspension. Rays Gram Lights wheels spin with the drift and add some pizzazz. 

Papadakis Racing put together the second Supra drift car

Papadakis Racing put together the second Supra drift car. It says engine output is over 1,000 hp and 908 lb-ft of torque. As a comparison, a stock Supra puts out 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. Papadakis attributes the increase to a complete custom build to the engine that includes larger fuel injectors and engine management improvements. 

While these new concepts are great Toyota says there are more in the offing it will reveal in two weeks. So we have more Toyota love to take in towards Thanksgiving that we can hardly wait for. MotorBiscuit will be bringing those to you as well.
