Shock Alert: The Jeep Recon Is an Attractive Off-Roader
We knew that an electric Jeep model was in the works, but there weren’t many clues about the electric Recon to go on. We saw easers about the Jeepster EV and the Jeep Magneto, which is an electric Jeep Wrangler. But now, the game has completely changed with the introduction of the Jeep Recon.
What is the Jeep Recon?
The Jeep Recon is a brand-new electric Jeep model that just made its debut. It’s expected to enter production by 2024, but we’re ready to play with it now! If the Recon is for the 2025 model year, then it feels like it’s ages away.
Also, it looks great. The Recon is the Wrangler’s brother, but it looks like the Jeep Renegade grew up. It also looks like a modern XJ Jeep Cherokee. What if the new Jeep Grand Cherokee had the Recon face instead of the short grille and thin LED headlights?
Speaking of those other models, we would really like an update on the Renegade and Cherokee, Stellantis. COME ON.
Anyways, the Recon is one of four electric Jeep models that will come to the United States by 2025. It’s kicking off one aggressive electrification plan. None of the EV SUVs are replacing current models in the lineup.
How much power does the 2024 Recon have?
Stellantis didn’t release any specs for the Jeep Recon yet. But hopefully, we will learn more soon. As the brother to the Jeep Wrangler, we can assume that the Recon will be incredibly capable.
According to Pickup Truck Talk, the Recon will have plenty of range. It’s expected to cross the Rubicon Trail with enough range to go make it back to town afterward. Plus, Jeep is placing charging stations at major trailheads.
The trail is 22 miles long and takes experienced off-roaders about five hours to complete. This doesn’t really help us figure out its range, though.
It’s probably safe to expect a standard range model with about 250 miles of range and an extended battery option with 320 miles of range. We will update you as soon as we find out more.
The Recon borrows from the Wrangler with the ability to connect with nature. It has a retractable soft top and removable doors. Plus, the Jeep Recon has locking differentials, underbody skid plates, and off-road-rated tires.
How much does the Recon EV cost?
The Jeep Recon price will probably be a mystery for the next few years. Who knows how supply chain shortages and inflation will affect vehicles in 2024. However, the Rivian R1S starts at $72,500.
But the Recon is a two-row option, so perhaps it will be cheaper. At least, we hope it’s more affordable. The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon starts at $42,000, which is much more ideal than the cost of the luxury R1S.
Also, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe starts at $54,585. So, the price of the Recon is anyone’s guess at this point. At least the Recon and Wrangler EV will be built in America. That could help with the destination fees.
Jeep is going all in on electric vehicles, and we’re excited to see how the new options perform. However, the Gladiator, Wrangler, Cherokee, and Renegade are due for updates.
