The Ford F-100 Eluminator concept was a show-stopper at SEMA 2021. SEMA gives automakers a chance to show off some of their coolest concepts as well as new possibilities for existing vehicles. The F-100 Eluminator concept was a shocker because it combined a throwback exterior from 1978 with cutting-edge electric vehicle technology.

Ford has clearly embraced the electric future in 2021. The Blue Oval unveiled the Ford F-150 Lightning fully electric truck. It has seen success with the launch of the Mustang Mach-E electric SUV. The American automaker still has to convince many drivers of the benefits of electric vehicle technology, and it saw SEMA as the perfect opportunity to show what EV tech can really do.

The Ford F-100 Eluminator is a fully electric concept truck that was designed to show that an old dog can learn new tricks. The F-100 Eluminator has an old-school Ford truck body, but it’s young at heart. It uses the same powertrain and motor system as the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

Ford housed Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition mechanical components in the F-100 body to give the blast from the past modern power. The Ford F-100 Eluminator concept makes 480 horsepower using motors and a battery electric powertrain. The Eluminator electric crate motor itself makes 281 horsepower. According to Road Show by CNET, the electric motor was so impressive that it sold out in days.

The purpose of Ford’s F-100 showcase at SEMA 2021 was clearly to display the true power of the Mustang Mach-E from a different perspective. The Mach-E is still a Mustang and still offers muscle car power despite being an electric SUV.

Ford has discovered how to produce a vehicle that is both environmentally responsible and quick. The Mustang Mach-E Select trim can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.2 seconds. Its highest trim level, the GT, can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a shocking 3.8 seconds.

Electric motors can produce just as much power as gas engines can. Ford’s F-100 Eluminator proves that electric vehicles can look and feel like the Ford models consumers have known and loved for decades.

The Ford Eluminator motor was on sale for $3,900 following its SEMA 2021 debut. After just a few days, the motor is completely sold out. The Blue Oval did not anticipate such a massive demand for the electric motors, and its supply quickly ran out less than a week after they were available for sale.

Ford plans on releasing more Eluminator motors for builders because of the overwhelming demand. The motors are currently being resold for as much as $4,750 on eBay. Is this the beginning of a custom performance electric vehicle market?
