If you’re shopping for a compact SUV, you have tons of options to consider. There’s the Honda CR-V, RAV4, Kia Sorento, Jeep Renegade, and more. But where does the Ford Edge fit into the lineup? This has been a favorite SUV for years, so does the 2020 model maintain what drivers and passengers love about this SUV?

A Look At The Ford Edge’s Specs 

Ford Edge Power 

The Ford Edge is a pricier option that starts around $31k. The Jeep Renegade base model starts around $22k, and even the new Chevy Blazer can be purchased for Under $30k, so what is included with the larger price? 

Well, fuel efficiency isn’t. The Ford Edge only gets an average of 21 mph in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, putting it behind its competitors. 

The lackluster fuel economy may be due to the incredible power that this SUV has. The base model comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that pumps out 250 horsepower and 275 lb-ft torque. 

Higher trim models have a 2.7-L twin-turbo engine with an output of 335 horsepower and 385 lb-ft torque. 

This is enough power to accelerate around the city quickly and to haul between 1,500 to 3,500 lb, while the Honda CR-V can only two 1,500 lb. 

The Ford Edge also has a competitive ground clearance height of 8” and sits on 18” aluminum wheels, making it seem pretty capable for off-roading adventures. However, this vehicle is only available in four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. There isn’t a 4×4 option. 

Take advantage of the Ford Edge’s 18.9-degree approach angle and 22.2-degree departure angle to get to where you need to go. These angles show us that the Ford Edge is more capable of going over various terrains than the Kia Sorento. 

Ford Edge Features 

You can enjoy the Ford Edge’s spacious ability to seat five passengers comfortably. China actually has a Ford Edge model that seats seven people with a third-row seat, but that version will not hit American markets. 

The Ford Edge has 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 73.4 cubic square feet of cargo space when the seats are folded down. This provides plenty of storage space for luggage and larger items such as bikes. 

However, the infotainment center feels a little dated with a basic plastic design and 8” touch screen display. The Intelligent Oil-Life monitor will let you know when it’s time for an oil change, and you can see the temperature, as these are standard features that cars have already had for a while. 

The dual-zone climate control feature and incredibly quiet cabin will keep you comfortable during your drives even though this vehicle hasn’t received a significant redesign since 2015. However, the Ford Edge does have four 12 volt plugs so that you can use all of your devices. 

Along with modern safety features such as front collision warnings, rear cross-traffic detection, and more, you can also take advantage of the hill start assist in climbing over steep inclines without rolling backward. 

Based on our findings, we feel as if the Ford Edge sits in the middle of the SUV pack. While it has more power than other models and is a little better for off-roading, it can’t keep up with a 4X4 SUV. 

Also, less powerful models such as the RAV4 and Honda CR-V have more advanced features to enjoy.
