Without overstating the obvious, one significant reason to consider the CX-5 over the Mazda3 Hatchback is the driver’s position it yields. Overall, the CX-5 provides good outward visibility. But at Car and Driver notes, the Mazda3 Hatchback’s distinct shape and lower stance can hamper a driver’s rearview. 

How much more space does the CX-5 have compared to the Mazda3 hatch?

The Mazda3 Hatchback has seats for up to five people (seating for four is more realistic). We also know that buyers appreciate this compact car’s ample cargo room too. This hatch has a maximum carbo capacity of 47.1 cu. ft. The CX-5 is also a five-seater, but it will give you a bit more space. The CX-5 has a larger cargo area with 59.6 cu. ft.

Besides the extra space, you may want to upgrade to a new CX-5 because of the updated amenities it has. You can swap the SUV’s standard cloth seats with synthetic leather upholstery, genuine leather, or Nappa leather. Other available frills to consider are heated and cooled seats, plus a heated back row. 

Tech is also a reason you might want to go up to the 2021 CX-5 since it now comes with more gadgets. All CX-5s features a 10.25-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, plus a wifi hotspot. Mazda updated the SUV’s advanced safety equipment too. Functions, including automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring, are standard. 

So, should you trade your Mazda3 Hatchback for a new CX-5?

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 ranges from $25,270 to $37,405. If you’re looking for more frills at a bargain, going up to the CX-5 is worth it. Furthermore, the switch makes sense if you want additional space and higher ground clearance.
