For most automakers, issuing a recall with the NHTSA is a major situation. But when it comes to supercar brand Bugatti, issuing a recall isn’t a big deal. Especially when it is for one single Bugatti Chiron supercar.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is recalling this 2018 Bugatti Chiron

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a recall for a single 2018 Bugatti Chiron at the end of last month. The recall on the NHTSA website is titled “Frame Support Not Tightened Properly.” Dedrick Hagans, the after-sales business manager at Bugatti, is the recipient.

“Bugatti is recalling one 2018 Chiron vehicle. One of the screws that fastens the front frame support may be loose.”

Furthermore, the manufacturer’s report date is from March 28, 2022. The recall was noted on April 5, 2022, for this single 2018 Bugatti Chiron. NHTSA campaign number 22V-198 relates to the “structure: frame and members” components. The NHTSA says that the consequence of this loose screw might reduce the structural integrity of the Bugatti Chiron in the case of an accident. To sum up, this can increase the risk of injury.

Just take your Bugatti Chiron into the local dealership for a quick fix

The NHTSA suggested that the owner, whoever the owner is, take the Chiron to a local dealership. In this case, it is even possible the dealership will come to you. The dealer can inspect the screws and tighten each one as necessary, which Bugatti says will be free of charge. The owner can reach the Bugatti customer service line at 1-703-826-7545. The Bugatti recall number is BUGCR027. The owner is in the U.S. somewhere, and the Chiron has an assembly date of November 16, 2017.

Interestingly enough, the NHTSA has issued four recalls for that version of the Bugatti Chiron. In December 2020, a recall was issued for the “Electronic Stability Control Malfunction.” The ESC will not automatically go back to the default mode if the handling mode is selected. Essentially, ESC is not turning on automatically and can increase the risk of a crash. This recall affected 73 units.

Additionally, the recall from 2018 for side airbag issues. The NHTSA noted that the automaker installed the heat shield for the gas generator on the side airbags incorrectly. This could reduce the performance of the airbags in the case of a crash. This recall impacted only two Bugatti Chiron supercars.

The supercar maker isn’t exactly pumping out a lot of inventory

According to a recent Bloomberg article, Bugatti is a pretty low-volume supercar maker. In fact, it only sells about 80 vehicles a year globally, adding to its allure. The bigger deal is the recalls the NHTSA is usually a part of. Bloomberg says there is an average of 650 recalls a year that impact 25 million cars. This recall only applies to the one lone Bugatti Chiron, wherever it may be.

Similarly, Bugatti had to issue a recall for every 2021 Chiron Pur Sport supercar made earlier this year. Fortunately, that was only nine vehicles total. Is that a good or a bad thing? This is the time for supercar optimism. The automaker only had to give nine Bugatti Chiron vehicles a new set of tires. Thoughts and prayers for those nine people.
