In spite of Alfa Romeo and its sister brand Fiat having problems embedding into the American landscape and in spite of initial big plans, they both have future models on the way. With the introduction of the Fiat 500 in 2012, it told dealers there would be plenty more Fiats to come, and those dealers quick to sign up would also have the coveted Alfa brand just a couple of years down the road.

Future Not As Planned

Well, things haven’t gone as planned. Alfa Romeo has been very slow in releasing models, and there have been reliability issues like those that dogged their reputation the first time they tried to make inroads into the US, so this is reinforcing the old rep. Also, it is already cutting some models including the slow-selling 4C coupe, and the Fiat 500. If you look at sales for 2018 they declined by over 40%. Yikes! 

The JD Power Dependability study lists Fiat at the bottom with 2.5 many problems as Toyota and two-times the average. Recalls have plagued both Fiat and Alfa.

But there’s good news for the near future. Automotive News reports that Alfa Romeo will be launching a number of new models over the next few years to try and catch the attention of car buyers in the US. Here are six future Alfa Romeo models coming in the near future:

1. Alfa Romeo Kamal

Alfa’s first large SUV, it will be about the size of an X5 BMW. It will be a three-row entry-level crossover. Expect this later in 2020 as a 2021 model. 

2. Alfa Romeo Castello

A new mid-size CUV gas-powered, this will compete directly with the Audi A3. It will share the Giorgio platform. This is expected to debut in 2022 as a 2023 model.

3. Alfa Romeo Tonale

Another crossover, this plug-in hybrid will be slotted below the Stelvio. The concept was debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019.

4. Alfa Romeo Giulia

Alfa’s mid-size luxury gasoline-powered sedan will be all-new for 2023. This will also be the 60th anniversary of the Giulia Sprint GT, Alfa’s fast, famous sedan produced from 1963-1976. Giulia currently does about one-tenth the volume of its competition, with a projected sales of 30,000 in 2019.

5. Alfa Romeo 4C Spyder Italia

The Spider version of the canceled 4C coupe will be available in 2020, but only 15 examples will be built. It is based on the 4C Spider Italia concept shown at the Chicago Auto Show last February.

6. Alfa Romeo Stelvio

This compact luxury crossover was Alfa’s first, debuting in should be due for a redesign by 2024. The Quadrifoglio version currently features a 505 hp engine with a top speed of 176 mph. 

There was a time last year where rumors were rampant that FCA would package both Alfa and Maseratti together to sell. There was also a time when it was said Volkswagen was extremely interested in purchasing Alfa. Not any longer. As manufacturers pool their money for the electric future they all see there is no room for more brands. These manufacturers will have enough to do adapting to the near future of electric SUVs and autonomous buses.
