Size Matters, but the Telsa Cybertruck Comes up Short
Today we’re putting the Tesla Cybertruck in the hot seat because we have to ask the tough questions about trucks. For example, what the FRUNK? New images show that a crucial area of the Tesla Cybertruck is upsettingly small.
The Tesla Cybertruck frunk falls short
One of the exciting aspects of new electric vehicles like the Tesla Cybertruck and Ford F-150 Lightning includes the frunk. It’s the front trunk, or the spacious area where the engine would go if the vehicles had one.
They can be perfect for extra storage, waterproof to stand up to muddy gear, have outlets to power devices, and can even be used as coolers. However, the ice melted pretty quickly when we used the f-150 Lightning’s frunk as a cooler during a get-together.
Anyway, a leaked video shows the Cybertruck with the hood up for about eight seconds, allowing us to take a look at its tiny frunk. The F-150 Lightning’s frunk provides up to 14.1 cubic feet, which could be more spacious.
The Tesla Cybertruck has a short overhang, which could make the frunk look smaller than it actually is. It seems pretty wide and shallow, making us wonder if it has enough cargo space. However, it does feature a covered bed.
Also, the Lightning’s frunk can hold up to 400 lbs. Official specs for the Tesla Cybertruck and its frunk haven’t been released. But we can assume that more information will arrive in September if deliveries actually start by the end of the year.
Is the Cybertruck out?
No, the Tesla Cybertruck and its potentially small frunk aren’t officially out. However, we’re getting closer to seeing this beast on the streets as production ramps up. Deliveries are expected to begin by the end of the year.
Limited production could start in October. Volume or mass production is expected to ramp up in 2024. Rumors suggest that cracking windows and failure to produce enough in-house batteries could delay the truck further.
But the Cybertruck was initially announced back in 2019, so fans are used to waiting by now. The Cybertruck is built in Austin, Texas, with the use of a massive Gigapress. Also, the electric Telsa truck has entered the final phase of testing and certification.
If everything goes well and stays on track, then the official launch date could finally occur by the end of September. But with over 1.5 million preorders waiting in the wings, and a limited production capacity in 2023, deliveries could take years.
How much will the electric Tesla truck cost?
The original starting price of the Tesla Cybertruck work truck was expected to begin at $40,000. However, that was back in 2021. An entire pandemic, a slew of supply chain issues, and rising inflation have impacted the automotive industry since then.
It’s safe to expect the Cybertruck to have a higher starting price. Although, it’s worth noting that Elon Musk thinks the Ford F-150 Lightning is too expensive. After fluctuating prices, the F-150 Lightning now has an MSRP of $49,995.
The Tesla Cybertruck s expected to qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit. Ford F-150 Lightning trims under $80,000 also qualify for the tax credit.
We may not know when the Cybertruck will officially debut, how much it costs, or how much range it has, but we do know it has a tiny frunk (even if we aren’t sure quite yet exactly how tiny). Stay tuned for updates because things are expected to get on track by the end of the year.
