There’s no denying that the 2020 Honda Passport has grown quite popular in its short tenure. Popularity isn’t everything, though. And, unfortunately for the Honda Passport, there are better options out there. One of them? The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe.

Why you should skip the 2020 Honda Passport

There are several reasons why you should skip the 2020 Honda Passport. From how it drives to its predicted reliability ratings, Consumer Reports was spot on in suggesting that this year’s new Honda Passport is an SUV worth missing out on.

According to Consumer Reports, the Honda Passport “has a stiffer ride than its sibling” the Honda Pilot and doesn’t offer any improvements when it comes to handling. Consumer Reports added that its “steering feels vague, which accentuates the SUV’s ponderous handling.”

Unfortunately for the Passport, a lackluster driving experience isn’t all Consumer Reports had to talk about. The infotainment system on this year’s model is particularly clunky and can be slow to respond to inputs.

As for its predicted reliability ratings? The 2020 Honda Passport tanked them. Consumer Reports gave it a one out of five predicted reliability rating. The most common trouble spots identified by Consumer Reports included the Passport’s in-car electronics and its climate systems.

The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe is a better pick

Fortunately for SUV shoppers, there are better options available. Among them? The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe. And as Consumer Reports so eloquently put it, the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe is “the size of a midsized SUV but priced like a top-trim compact SUV.”

A competitive price tag isn’t the only reason to choose this year’s Santa Fe over the 2020 Honda Passport. Driven by your choice of a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine or a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, this year’s Santa Fe offers composed handling and responsive steering.

It comes stocked full of safety features too. Equipped with forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist, this SUV knows how to inspire confidence behind the wheel.

The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe scored better reliability ratings too. This year’s Santa Fe earned a three out of five predicted reliability rating, unlike the Honda Passport.

What current owners have to say about it

Don’t just take our word for it, though. The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe earned a five out of five predicted overall customer satisfaction score. And when it comes to current owners of the 2020 Santa Fe? Consumer Reports says 82% of owners would rebuy this SUV.

Is the 2020 Honda Passport really that bad?

The 2020 Honda Passport isn’t necessarily a bad SUV to choose. It’s just not quite as good of an option as the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe is. In the end, though, if a competitively priced, reliable SUV is what you seek, then the new Hyundai Santa Fe very well may be the right choice for you.
