Ditch the Subaru Legacy and choose the Toyota Camry instead

If you’re interested in buying a new sedan, you’re going to want to check out this year’s new Toyota Camry. According to Consumer Reports, the 2021 model is much more reliable than the Legacy. While this year’s Legacy earned a frustratingly average three out of five reliability rating, Consumer Reports gave this year’s Camry a perfect score.

But the Toyota Camry isn’t just a reliable alternative to the Subaru Legacy. It’s also more fuel-efficient when you opt for a base model without all-wheel drive. According to the EPA, you can expect the Camry LE to deliver an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway, giving it a 32 combined city/highway mpg rating. As for the Subaru Legacy? The EPA reports it can deliver an EPA-estimated 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, giving it a 30 combined city/highway mpg rating.

But that doesn’t really tell the full story. The Toyota Camry is also available as a hybrid. Opt for the Toyota Camry Hybrid LE, and the EPA says that you can expect it to deliver an EPA-estimated 51 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway.

Consider the Mazda6 as an alternative to the Subaru Legacy

The Toyota Camry isn’t the only alternative to the Subaru Legacy that’s worth considering. The 2021 Mazda6 is also worth taking a look at, especially if you’re interested in a reliable sedan. Because, according to Consumer Reports, this year’s model earned a four out of five predicted reliability rating. 

According to U.S. News & World Report, that’s not the only reason you should consider the Mazda6 as an alternative to the Subaru Legacy. Unlike the Legacy, the Mazda6 offers “spirited handling.” U.S. News & World Report added that the Mazda6’s “responsive steering and athletic handling help make it a thrill to drive, without sacrificing ride comfort.”

The only downside to choosing the Mazda6 over this year’s Legacy? Unfortunately, the Mazda6 isn’t available with all-wheel drive. If that’s an absolutely necessity for you? You might want to stick with the Subaru Legacy.

The Hyundai Sonata offers better warranty coverage than the Subaru Legacy

The Subaru Legacy and the Hyundai Sonata are fairly similar. They’re around the same price and both offer a considerable amount of space for passengers. But if you don’t require a sedan with all-wheel drive, there are a few reasons to consider the Hyundai Sonata as an alternative to the Subaru Legacy. First off, the Sonata is a more fuel-efficient alternative to the Legacy. 

Opt for the base model Hyundai Sonata SE and, according to the EPA, you can expect it to deliver an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. Consider a hybrid model instead and those numbers jump considerably.

But the Sonata isn’t just a fuel-efficient alternative to the Subaru Legacy. It also offers significantly better warranty coverage. While Subaru Legacy comes standard with a 3-year/36,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, the Sonata comes standard with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, a five-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited, and a 7-year/unlimited miles anti-perforation warranty. 

Unlike the Subaru Legacy, this year’s Sonata also comes standard with Hyundai complimentary maintenance, which includes all factory scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000-miles, whichever comes first. So, whether it’s time for an oil change or a tire rotation, you can count on Hyundai to foot the bill.
