Only 1 small hybrid car earned a top safety rating from the IIHS for 2024
Shopping for a new car is a matter of many factors in 2024. Does it have the technology you want? More importantly, will it help you prioritize safety for yourself and your family? Well, if you’re after a small hybrid car for 2024, only one model took a coveted Top Safety Pick+ rating for 2024.
The 2024 Toyota Prius is the only small hybrid car to earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS
When it comes to small cars, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) names most gas-powered models in the “small cars” category as safety standouts. Most notably, the Mazda3, Honda Civic, and Acura Integra stole top spots. However, the only hybrid in the mix to take the IIHS’ coveted “Top Safety Pick+” rating for the 2024 model year was the Toyota Prius.
In testing, the 2024 Toyota Prius earned a “good” crashworthiness rating in every category but the updated “moderate overlap front” test. That said, the rating refers to a clean bill of health in every sub-category of the updated test.
However, an unfortunate blemish on the Prius’s record resides in the “rear passenger restraints and dummy kinematics” segment. Specifically, the Prius exhibited compartment instructions in the test. However, the test didn’t stop the hybridized Toyota from taking a top safety award.
Still, the Toyota Prius is far from the only vehicle in the “small car” category to earn a top safety award for 2024.
