Competing against a range of different all-electric SUVs, the 2022 Kia Niro EV offers a relatively sporty drive and practical design. Which makes it ideal for a number of buyers who are interested in a new EV. Additionally, the Niro EV has a starting price of $41,205 and when paired with the available Federal Tax Credit, that makes it fairly affordable over some other models. The Niro EV is in a crowded segment. Because of that, it’s easy for this model to get lost from all of the other options. Despite not having the same branding power as the Mustang Mach-E or other premium brands, it does offer practicality and a comfortable cabin. Which is something that is likely to be appreciated.

For 2022, the Kia Niro EV is similar to the outgoing model. But, there are more standard features like a 10.3-inch touchscreen and Kia’s new badging. Depending on the configuration, the Niro EV offers almost 300 miles of electric range. And it can charge up to 100 miles of range within 30 minutes on a fast charger. Better yet, it is eligible for up to a $7,500 Federal Tax Rebate.

How quick is the 2022 Niro EV?

The Niro EV is powered by an electric motor that generates 201 horsepower and 291 pound-foot of torque. This power gives the Niro EV a 0-60 mph time of under 6.5 seconds. And although this EV is only front-wheel drive, it still offers an engaging ride.

This Kia model can also be driven with a single pedal. And that is thanks to regenerative braking. This feature is nice to have on the Niro EV, because it offers four different levels depending on your preference.

In addition to being quick, the cabin is notably quiet according to Car and Driver. Which lends this electric vehicle to be ideal for things like daily commuting.

Is the 2022 Kia Niro EV practical?

Despite its small sizing, the Niro EV is a practical EV. With 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, there is plenty of room for things like gear and groceries. With the rear seat down, there is up to 53.0 cubic feet of storage space.

Additionally, the Niro EV SUV has a ground clearance of 6.1 inches. But because this model is only FWD, it isn’t likely that buyers are looking for something that can handle rugged terrain. For those that want an AWD EV, the Kia EV6 has the ability to offer that.

For those in search of a new EV SUV that does not break the bank, the Niro EV is the ideal option. It competes with a range of different vehicles, but that does not mean that it should be overlooked. The ideal Niro EV model may be the EX trim level. It costs less than the EX Premium but still offers a number of standard features.

Features include things like heated front seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as different driver-assist features. For drivers in colder climates, opting for the cold weather package may be the right pick. It adds a heated steering wheel, a heat pump, and a battery heater. The heat pump is a more efficient way of heating the vehicle. Which can help to improve the overall range in cold weather.
