These days luxury SUVs can perform as well as high-end sports cars and nearly cost as much as one too. One such vehicle is the Land Rover Range Rover Sport, with a price far exceeding many others in its class. Here we discuss why you should just buy a Range Rover Sport if you’re going to splurge for a midsize SUV. 

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport’s price when compared to other models

On the U.S. News list of the Best Luxury Midsize SUVs for 2023 and 2024, the Range Rover Sport lands in the No. 7 spot. The price for this model ranges from $83,000 to $121,500 to start. If you compare it to the previous six models on the list, you’ll notice the Range Rover Sport begins at a much higher price. 

The only one of those six that comes the closest is the 2023 Porsche Cayenne, with a starting price of $72,200 for the base trim. However, Porsche’s top version does draw a much higher price, beginning price at $188,700. 

The next closest price would be the 2023 Lincoln Aviator, which ties in fourth place with the 2023 Lincoln Nautilus and the 2024 Genesis GV80 model. Regarding the cheapest version within the top six, the 2023 Lincoln Nautilus starts at $44,825. 

Other models with the same price point

Out of 21 models on the list, the only one on the same level as the Range Rover Sport’s price is the 2023 Maserati Levante, which commands a starting price of $87,600. The top trim begins at $161,400. What we find, though, is that if you’re going to spend about $80,000 for a midsize luxury SUV, just go for the 2023 Range Rover Sport instead of the Maserati Levante. 

The Levante scored a 7.0 with U.S. News, while the Range Rover model got a rating of 8.3 out of 10 possible points. Maserati’s SUV doesn’t get as good fuel savings as the Range Rover. The Levante offers 13 mpg in the city and 20 mpg when traveling on the highway for the V8 models. If you have the V6, you will only get 16 mpg on city roads and 22 mpg on the highway. 

With the Range Rover Sport, you get 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg when traveling on the highway. If you have the mild hybrid setup, you can get 19/26 mpg (city/highway). The Range Rover Sport PHEV trim offers 51 miles of electric-only driving. According to Car and Driver, the Range Rover can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds for the V8 models, while the Maserati offers a five-second time for the same run. 

What you get with the Land Rover Range Rover Sport price

For its $83,000 price tag, the Range Rover Sport offers plenty to offer. Powering it up is your choice of four engines. First, there’s the twin-turbocharged V8 model, which produces 523 hp. Depending on your chosen engine, you can also get two mild hybrid versions, generating around 355-395 hp. Lastly, there’s the PHEV model, which can produce 434 hp. 

If you’re looking for an off-roading vehicle, the Range Rover Sport gives you 11.1 inches of ground clearance, a wading depth of approximately 35.4 inches, and a towing capacity of 7,716 lbs. It also has a height-adjustable air suspension, which helps to get over deep ruts and sharp rocks. 

When it comes to standard safety features, there’s a long list of items. A few of them include:

• Lane departure warning
• Lane-keeping assist
• Forward collision warning
• Traffic sign recognition
• Blind-spot monitoring
• Front and rear parking sensors
• Rear cross-traffic alert

Some of the available features include driver attention monitoring, a heads-up display, vehicle exit warning, adaptive cruise control, parallel and perpendicular park assist, and automatic emergency braking at high speeds. It also offers a four-year/50,000 limited warranty and an eight-year/100,000-mile hybrid battery warranty, according to Land Rover’s site. 

There are some pretty nice midsize luxury SUVs on the market. But, if you’re going to splurge and spend around $80,000, you should go for the Range Rover Sport instead of something like the Maserati, which won’t give you as much fuel savings.
