Spied: The 2025 BMW M2 CS Spotted Testing in Germany
Though the newest generation of BMW M2 just hit U.S. showrooms, the next version of BMW’s smallest sports car is already in the works. Spies snapped photos of the upcoming 2025 BMW M2 CS testing around the Nurburgring earlier this week. Looking through the camo, several updates stand out as highlights of what upgrades are to come for the spicy sports car.
Aerodynamic updates for the 2025 BMW M2 CS
First reported by Motor Authority, these spy shots give us an idea of what to expect with the new M2 CS. Through the camouflage wrap, there are few important updates that indicate the type of upgrades the BMW M2 CS will deliver. For starters, an aggressive front splitter will provide additional front downforce to aid in high-speed turn-in response. Meanwhile, an integrated ducktail spoiler sits on the trunk. That’ll help settle down the rear end and keep the entire setup balanced at speed.
No ugly grilles in the new M2
Critically, though, the M2 CS features the same boxy grille setup as the 2023 cars. That’s no surprise, as the previous M2 revisions also maintained a familiar front-end look. However, we are excited that the upgraded version of BMW’s compact sports car isn’t getting the pig-snout treatment.
That design was, after all, billed as a necessity to deliver higher power figures from the B58 3.0-liter six-cylinder. So to see that an upgrade M2 isn’t wearing the same ugly face is a relief, even if the boxy design itself is a bit polarizing.
Updated suspension and brakes
In addition to the aerodynamic updates, the 2025 BMW M2 CS looks to have both a lower ride height and bigger brake package than the current car. That’s in keeping with the tradition of moving the entire car up in unison. As power increases, so does brake power. As the car loses weight, the suspension drops.
In that sense, the incoming M2 CS will be both sharper and harsher than the current car. Given the M2’s recent weight gain, that’s a formula that’s sure to please.
What you don’t see
What can’t be discerned from these spy shots, and what BMW itself is keeping close to the vest, are some of the other changes coming to the BMW M2 CS for 2025. If the next version is in keeping with previous iterations of the CS line, there are some expectations.
For one, we’d be disappointed if BMW didn’t include carbon fiber roof, hood, and trunk panels to lower the car’s center of gravity. Furthermore, it’s all-but guaranteed that the new CS will make more power, but how much is yet to be determined.
Notably, the current M3 churns out 20 more horsepower than the base M2. So weather the CS version will approach or surpass M3 territory will be a big marker in how aggressive BMW decides to be. Keep in mind that, if the current-gen M2 keeps up with the last one, we’ll likely get a Competition version down the road as well.
When to expect the upgraded BMW M2?
BMW is keeping things close to the vest, but we expect to learn more about the M2 CS in the first half of 2024. That will make it a late 2024 release as a 2025 model, two years behind the base car.
