Spotted: The Ford Bronco Sport Hybrid Will Be Here Soon
We have good news for Ford Bronco Sport fans. Clues suggest that the Ford Bronco Sport Hybrid is on the way, and it could arrive sooner than expected. Let’s explore the evidence to see what to expect with the Bronco Sport Hybrid.
When is the Ford Bronco Sport Hybrid coming out?
Initially, clues suggested that the Ford Bronco Sport Hybrid would come out in 2024. This comes from a report that Ford Authority found back in September 2021. While the report mentioned a release date for 2024, it didn’t specify how much power the Sport Hybrid will have.
However, people are already capturing spy photos of what seems to be the Bronco Sport Hybrid. If it’s already being tested, then it could be ready for the 2023 model year.
Nothing is officially confirmed, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the new powertrain option arrive by the end of 2022.
The Ford Bronco Sport doesn’t have a charging port, indicating that a hybrid variant is in the works instead of a plug-in hybrid or PHEV model. Plus, you can see orange high-voltage cables in the undercarriage hybrid vehicles typically use.
Also, the prototype is equipped with a set of EPA exhaust tips, which are often used for testing purposes. So, the fuel economy for the hybrid model could be determined soon.
How much power does the Bronco Sport Hybrid have?
The amount of power that the Ford Bronco Sport Hybrid will have is currently unclear. We will update you as soon as the official specs are released. It could share powertrain options with the Ford Escape and Maverick Hybrid since they all share the same platform.
With the Ford Escape Hybrid, you get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor that cranks out 200 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. The Ford Maverick Hybrid uses the same engine and provides 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque.
This is a solid amount of power, but we would expect the Bronco Sport Hybrid to have a little extra muscle. The standard Ford Bronco Sport engine is a 1.5-liter three-cylinder unit with 181 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque.
You can upgrade to the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine for 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. Hopefully, the hybrid engine will come sloe to matching these figures.
Also, the Bronco Sport gets an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and up to 28 mpg on the highway. The Maverick Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 42 mpg in the city and up to 33 mpg on the highway.
How much does the Bronco Sport Hybrid cost?
Currently, pricing for the Ford Bronco Sport Hybrid remains a mystery, but we will update you with the official price once it’s released. The 2022 Ford Bronco Sport starts at about $28,265.
The hybrid model could raise the price by a few thousand dollars, and it might only be available with higher trim levels, like the Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid. But the Ford Maverick Hybrid is actually the more affordable model.
However, the Maverick Hybrid can’t be equipped with all-wheel drive or the towing package. We don’t expect the Bronco Sport Hybrid to have these limitations to keep the pricing down. We will keep you updated with the latest news, spy shots, and teasers.
