According to Motor1, a crafty squirrel used a Chevrolet Avalanche to store a massive amount of tasty squirrel eats. The squirrel is a North Dakota native that knows how to prepare for the rough upper Midwest winters. Its self-made all-you-can-eat buffet amounted to over 150 pounds of walnuts tucked away safely in a Chevy Avalanche.

The Chevy Avalanche’s owner, Bill Fischer of Fargo, North Dakota, was highly inconvenienced, but hey, a squirrel’s gotta eat, right? The pickup truck’s owner removed four five-gallon bucket-fulls of walnuts from under his hood. The inner fenders were also chock full of walnuts.

The squirrel’s choice of a secret stash spot is amusing, but it also begs the question: what ever happened to the Chevrolet Avalanche? The GM pickup trucks were once a hit, but their buzz fizzled out after just 12 short model years.

The Chevrolet Avalanche first burst onto the pickup truck scene in 2001. Only two generations of the pickup truck were released before the Avalanche got the ax in 2013. Though GM hasn’t given a concrete answer on why the Chevy Avalanche was discontinued, its poor sales seem to be responsible for the nameplate’s demise.

The 2013 model year, the last Chevrolet Avalanche, has a 3.4/5 star expert rating from Kelley Blue Book. It has a 4.8/5 star consumer rating on KBB, so clearly, consumers are pretty attached to this discontinued pickup truck. 2013 models should last the average driver all the way until 200,000 miles or the year 2027 before needing any major repairs. Well-maintained models should be able to last up to 300,000 miles.

The Chevy Avalanche pickup truck has very few complaints registered on CarComplaints.com. The Avalanche is a decent Chevy truck. It just didn’t get enough support to warrant a model year after 2013. Even though many consumers who bought the truck adored it, the sales weren’t nearly enough for the historic General Motors.

The Black Diamond model retailed around $37,000. Fully loaded high trim level Chevy Avalanches ran consumers over $50,000 back in 2013. The Avalanche is no Silverado, but it has certainly made an impact on consumers…and squirrels.
