I don’t want y’all to get tired of reading headlines about the same automaker over and over. But this time, I found something positive about Stellantis to share. This is needed after recent months filled with turmoil. A new better V6 engine could be in the works for the Ram 1500 and Jeep SUVs.

Is Stellantis building an improved V6 engine?

Rumors suggest that Stellantis is sneakily building improved V6 engines for the Ram 1500 and Jeep SUVs. According to Stell Power, the engine is an upgraded version of the reliable Pentastar V6 engine.

Reportedly, the engine is for the 2025 Ram 1500, which seems a bit late at this point. The 2025 Ram 1500 is already out. But it could be added later in 2025. The engine could also be for the 2026 Ram 1500.

Anyways, this engine could already be in production at the Trenton Engine Complex, in Trenton, Michigan. The plant was recently closed for a week due to having an overstock of V6 engines.

Some speculate that the overstock is due to declining sales. How can you install new engines if completed models aren’t moving?

However, one could also speculate that Stellantis was using up its resources before putting the new Pentastar V6 into production.

Rumors suggest that the upgraded engine is more efficient, has more flexibility in the valve timing belt, and cooled EGR. It should have more power and a better fuel economy, but none of the specs have been released.

Also, the upgraded engine could be built in Mexico in a facility where the current V6 engine is manufactured. Reportedly, the engines from the Mexican plant will be for the 2025 Jeep Cherokee.

In the 2024 Ram 1500, the current Pentastar engine is a 3.6-liter V6 unit with 305 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. It gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 25 mpg on the highway. Adding 4×4 reduces these figures by one or two MPGs.

Stay tuned for updates because Stellantis could have a hefty V6 engine surprise on the way.
