Stolen $100,000 Porsche 911 GT3 Crashes While Running from Police
When engineers first dreamed up the Porsche 911 GT3, they likely envisioned it at weekend track days or out on a twisty road. However, one of these Porsche models recently found itself in a very unusual situation as it tried to run away from police officers.
To make matters worse, CarBuzz reports that the 911 in question was actually stolen. Despite being a track-oriented variant of a sports car, snowy conditions stopped the driver from getting away. However, as the chase went on, officers decided to get physical to stop the driver.
How did this Porsche 911 GT3 get stolen?
This stolen Porsche 911 GT3 story begins as the car is already on the road. Police knew the car had been stolen and were quietly tracking it with their lights off. In a video published by the West Midlands Police, we see the car making its way through town at a quick pace, even running a red light. However, as the police flash their lights, the car immediately takes off.
Given the Porsche 911 GT3’s status as a track-day toy, it won’t surprise you to learn that the car immediately took off and almost vanished. However, since this pursuit occurred during winter conditions, the rear-wheel-drive sports car couldn’t fully ditch the pursuing officers. One of the officers makes a key observation as the thieves struggle to get traction during sharp turns.
As the chase continues, the Porsche 911 GT3 even encounters some snowy conditions. At this point, the sports car loses control once and spins out in the middle of traffic. However, since the thieves were determined to get away, they managed to recover the car.
Police crashed into the car during a heated chase
After the Porsche 911 GT3 slid in traffic, the officers decided to end the chase quickly. Given the snowy conditions, the 911 couldn’t get back up to speed following its spin. In fact, the video shows the car struggling for traction as it attempts to regain speed. At this point, one of the police officers decides to ram the sports car onto a snowy sidewalk. As you might imagine, the rear-wheel-drive car can’t go anywhere at this point.
Once the first officer contacted the Porsche 911 GT3, at least two other police vehicles decided to ram the sports car. In the video, you can clearly hear the Porsche revving its engine and spinning its wheels while trying to get away. Since the pursuing officers had enough of the chase, they decided to break the car’s rear windows to deter the robbers.
Despite these attempts, the car thief won’t give up. Eventually, the officers rely on a taser and brute force to end the chase. Eventually, a group of officers managed to drag the driver out of the car and end the chase.
What happened to this rare sports car?
Since there aren’t many 996 Porsche 911 GT3’s around, it isn’t worth scrapping the one involved in this chase. Despite getting rammed by officers, this sports car is likely in salvageable condition. Most of the damage appears to be cosmetic. Since some of these cars cost more than $100,000 in the used market, it is more than worthwhile to repair them.
